Glimpse of things to come - Gary's latest AI improvements!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Glimpse of things to come - Gary's latest AI improvements!

Hi all,

Glimpse of things to come - Gary's latest AI improvements! [:)]

Here is animation (sorry - almost 3 MB [8D]) of Gary's latest AI improvements - I bet you never saw AI doing this before - the screenshoots are with FoW set to ON and at the beginning of Soviet turns with 110% vs. 100%:

Just wondering what specifically we're supposed to be looking at? Attacking AI? Defending AI?

Hi all,

Both! [;)]

The Axis attacked and encircled the Soviets (IIRCthe tally was around 30+ destroyed Soviet units in span of the turns I shown) whilst Soviet defensive AI still managed to somehow stabilize the line (albeit it was pushed back)... [:)]

Thanks there Leo... [&o][&o][&o]

Looks like the Soviet AI put a stable front together, then a launch a good counter-attack.

Des, all attacks shown in animation were Axis ones (i.e. the screenshoots depict beginning of Soviet turn and F11 = "Show Battles" thus shows Axis attacks of previous turn)!

The Soviets didn't counterattack - they still barely managed to patch the line although they suffered huge losses (IIRC around 30+ divisions were lost in Axis encirclements)...

Oops there Leo... Saw the replay first on a small screen, and read the sequence all wrong. Have watched it now on my monitor, and can see what happened. But you know me by now Leo, always going off half-baked about something.

So is this something new that will happen after the next patch comes out or is it in the current beta patch?

Because looking at the screenshot it shows 1.05.53, which I belive is the latest beta patch.

This was done using internal BETA WitE v1.05.54 ... the reason you see WitE v1.05.53 is because this was the last installer WitE (same for you in public and same for us in WitE development) - we just manually copy new EXE over latest install...

BTW, current WitE BETA is v1.05.58!

Yikes, even less of a chance for me to defeat the AI. [8D]

Hello

The german AI had 110 % and the soviet 100%? Only a clarification. Nice to see that the ai still be revised. especially for me (a little bit egoistic) who only plays against the ai.

I think right now it is a "must have" setting (110%) for the ai.

Yes - it was 100% vs. 100% - AI vs. AI.

BTW, perhaps 100% will not be needed any longer - we must test this...

The glimpse is nice. In my beta game of a 43GC i was defending against the german Ai who was coming after kursk for 2-3 turns with the full force of their panzers. Then in the south by rostov i sent one of my tank armies to try and encircle some weak german units.

The next turn the german AI pulls a general patton and stops the attack on kursk leaving only a screen force and several panzer armies are rushed down to this area where they counter encircle me.

Image

Note at the NE of the picture where the germans TRIED to break through and complete the encirclement of my southern army. Very risky but still very impressive.
