Transparent Combat Results Box - 1/10/2012 5:19:50 PM

Status: online 		GWGardner provided a mod for SoP to make the Combat Results box transparent, this allows you to see on the map where the combat is taking place, which would otherwise be hidden when the info box comes up. I am using the Agent S modern map, which uses pale colours, so the white text alone does not show up well, but will work better on the darker map options. I changed the text to black to work better for me, but I think it also improves all the other game screens.

ToF has a white highlight in text boxes, as you sweep the mouse over the game screens, this tended to make it harder to see the white text. The move to black text on all screens, still with the white back-light, looks quite good.

For Doomtrader - Could an Preference option for game text colour changes be made available, just as there are options for the colour of borders.

The attachment contains the ToF/data/GUI OOOOxOOO. file changes, initially made for Sop, but will work in ToF.

Status: online 		Here are some screen shots. If the box text is obscured by map details, you can move the map by mouse 'right click and hold', then slide the map to a better position.

This might be problematic but from the top of my head I think this value is stored in the resolution files at the very bottom.

Yes it is, last lines of the GUI files, but I am wondering if it can become a Preference option for those who don't want to mess with the game files, although it is a simple fix, once you know how it works.

Thanks, I think that many people don't realise how flexible this game is and walk away when they see something they don't like, not knowing how much can be changed. The more 'easy to use options' that can be provided the better it would be.

I am finding the game just great right now, having been able to adjust it, there are still issues, but I expect they can be dealt with.

Status: offline 		Hey, thanks for transferring that over to ToF. I just made the change and like the results. I also made the text bigger, and less bold.

I'm thinking perhaps a yellow font might work well, or skyblue? Some graphics guru out there please advise on what the best color for text would be.

Status: online 		As I only really take any notice of the headline Losses number one big improvement with ToF over ToW and SotP is the ability to turn the Combat Results boxes off leaving just the on map (floating numbers) display of the losses / air attack results.

The best colour will depend on which map you choose, I've gone for black text on the Agent S modern map, I also like the black text that then appears in all the other screens.

Status: online 		The greatest contrasting colour to a grey or neutral background is yellow.
It would be better than a light blue.
If you are going to use the transparent dialog boxes (which a good move), I think the scroll bars also need muting.
Only problem with tweaking the gui.png is that it is one of the 1st thing written over when updates are released. (I got burned on this with 'Storm').
Large text looks a little whacky, looks like you are using helvetica, I'd try something a little smoother, or system friendly.

Yes, I expect that will happen, but it is an easy fix to put it back,.....ummm, unless the devs want to make it an option in the game.

Status: online 		For the text colour, tried 30,30,60, which gives a blue/grey, bit clearer than straight black, which was too harsh, it co-ordinates quite well with the background colour of the screens and the yellow highlighted text, it will do for me.

As I understand the game better, I am making more use of the info and report boxes. It is really good to be able to quickly scan through all your units and spot supply, or strength problems, then from the screen, be able to select the problem unit on the map to fix. This definitely is a very good game. Using the renaming feature, I can add notes to unit names (Andrea Doria in dock) so as I scan the list, I can quickly see what tasks are left over from the last turn, magic.

Status: offline 		Here you go. This will make most of the in game windows semi-transparent. To complete the look for the fleet screen, you'll have to move or delete all the ship pictures in the "Units images" folder and add the 6 .png files (#40-45) to that folder.
