Mission Impossible? Hades1001(A) vs Hongye(J)

Post by hades1001 »

I'm at April 43 right now and this game has become more and more interesting. And I finally have some time to devote to sharing an AAR here. Hope you gents will like it.

I have several years of WITP exp but a total AE newbie when I started the game. And I had no idea my opponent is such a brilliant player and he is able to bring me all kinds of miserable experiences. I lost almost the whole world by the end of 42. Luckily, after a year of game time I finally get used to AE. The allied is still under great pressure right now and is still struggling to come back.

I would like to slowly put all my AAR from the very beginning so the readers can understand how I get here and why.

The evil emperor of Imperial Japan, Championzhao The Brutal must be brought to justice!

By the end of 1942, Championzhao has built a empire that one has never seen.

We played Scenario 2 and used most of the HRs in WITP. (Which I have to say, some HRs are inappropriate and changed after we played the game for sometime)

Settings and HRs

FOW ON
advanced Weather OFF
Allied damage control ON
PDU ON
historical first turn ON
Dec 7 surprise ON
reliable USN torps OFF
realistic R&D ON
no unit withdrawels OFF

turn cycle 1 TURN

No Allied 4E naval bombing, all other 4E missions above 20,000ft(changed to 15,000 from Jan 43)
2E naval bombing above 10,000, no 100ft bombing(removed from Jan. 43)

No units can be attached to AIR HQ and must pay full PP(not 1/3PP) to buy units(Applied after May 42);
no Strategic bombing until 6/44;
No Allied Air or naval units in Russia are allowed, even if Russia is activated;
No war in North Pacific(including Kurlie and Alaska);
Only US troops under ABDA/Southeast Asia command can fight in India;
No invasions or paradrops on hexes that doesn´t contain a dot or base.

As you can see most HRs restrict the ability of Allied and I feel it's OK in WITP. But the AE makes me realize how stupid I'm to play under those HRs. :)

I lost China in two months for my own stupidity and the battle of China will be screened out in this AAR.

I lost 3 BB in the historical Pearl Harbor attack turn and other 4BB in the next a few months to Jap SS when I tried to move them back to WC for repairing work.

That's the first thing I learned about AE! Japanan submarines are monsters! They eat damaged ships alive no matter they have escorts or not!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submarine attack near Molokai at 181,108

Japanese Ships
SS I-174

Allied Ships
BB California, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submarine attack near Molokai at 181,108

SS I-168

Allied Ships
BB Maryland, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage

BB Maryland is sighted by SS I-168
SS I-168 launches 4 torpedoes

Prince of Wales ate 1 torpedo at the first turn, she was ordered to retire to Capetown and was out of battle for 4 months. The good thing is I didn't lose her!

I gathered all surface ships available in DEA area and send them to Manado to intercept Japanese invasion fleet. They were covered by 100 P40E and buffalo. They did a good job to repel the Jap's fleet and almost have a chance to shoot a Jap CVE! (She escaped, luckily)

Ever since this engagement my opponent started to plan his every move very well and didn't left many chances for Allied to achieve anything major.

I'm not sure how to use torpedo bombers yet and put up a test against the Palembang invasion fleet.
But the result is not good at all. I lost a whole swordfish squadron.

I didn't send my surface fleet because the sea around Singapore and Palembang is too dangerous now.

Dec 25 - Dec 27

Malaya: Japs almost reach Malacca

SOPAC: Japs took Port Moresby and shortland uncontested. My carriers are on west coast of Australia and surface fleet all in DEI. Japs' invasion is covered by KB and with only two carriers right now I don't have a chance anyway. Championzhao lauched the Port Moresby invasion too early!

The cover roll of Port Moresby is over and KB moved through Arafura Sea and suddenly raided Darwin.

My whole ABDA fleet is refueling and replenish at Darwin and the losses are huge!
