For each -axis- air unit is a choice of
under 40 hexes,
40+ hexes. etc.

Which do you commonly use?

That only comes into play if you want the AI to assign air groups to the base for you.

Better to assign it yourself.

Why? Pick a range of 40+hexes, and the AI might put nothing but recon a/c there.

I thought the ranges were ajusted by the player and not the AI. Also arn`t these combat ranges?

So everybody keeps them at the default (longest) range then?

Read 5.4.17.

Aviation Ranges: Allows the player to toggle through four different ranges (all ranges, less than 20, less than 40, 41 or more). This setting will determine what air group units in the National Reserve will be displayed if the "ASSIGN" link is selected. In addition, the automated aviation commitment system will use this setting to determine what types of air group units to attach to the air base unit.

Commitment Level: Indicates the number of air group units that meet the aviation range setting that the computer will attempt to automatically assign to the air base. Below this are buttons to increase (ADD) or decrease (SUB) the current commitment level. Selecting the MOVE button will result in the automatic transfer of air group units to meet commitment levels, but only for that particular air base unit.

The range you pick will only show air groups that have that range.

All ranges will show every group.

Less than 20, only groups that can't fly further than that.

Less than 40, groups that can fly between 20-40.

More than 40, only groups than can fly 41 or more.
