Status: offline 		What good are these beasts anyway? (if any, I suspect not much)...

As far as I can tell, they can't carry "real" planes, only float planes. So they could provide a lot of scouting but that's about it. You could put floatplane fighters/bombers on them, but you really don't get enough groups of these to actually do so (I think only 2 float fighter groups). Well, so you could, but seriously, is that really worth it? (I find the float fighters best for night ops because they suck during the day but mount decent cannons).

Status: offline 		I planning to convert one or two to be scout ships for my slow carrier TF, if I have any carriers left at that point of game... Conversion takes lonf time, so I it might not be worth it.

Status: online 		Absolutely not worth it in my book except for the coolness factor. At this point of the game their guns serve you much better and the conversion time is rather long. To have them ready early 42 would be somewhat useful (with airgroups that is)but not that late.

The only ship which one should consider is the Mogami methinks.

Status: offline 		Erkki recently told me that they can carry CV capable planes, not float planes. If he is right, I think the conversion is worth it.

Status: offline 		IRL they could launch only a very small number of torpedo bombers or Vals, but could not recover them. They had to either land on another (real) carrier or a land base, or ditch.

Status: offline 		Problem is that you can't get their AA upgrades without the conversions. That might be worth it in itself. They go from around 300 to 1300+ AA value and get radar, etc. They could be useful as Flak batteries in the KB.

Status: offline 		They should be able to carry CV aircraft... They all have the "aircraft ordnance" device that BBs, CAs, CLs, AMCs and AVs dont have.

EDIT: looks like the CS cruisers have aircraft ordnance too. That means the ability to carry CV aircraft is defined by ship type and not a device or "check box". Unless some ships are hardcoded, like some air units are... But looks like they cant carry but floatplanes after all. Better prepare to build some Kyufus then.

Status: offline 		I've ran a quick test using the editor, and we can't transfer carrier capable planes to a BBCV.  And even putting those planes on the ship in the editor doesn't work : they don't fly.

Status: offline 		22 Jakes or Rufe is very useful- the Jake with 10 hex range is of immense value and the AA is v good. I converted two in the WITP days.
I also found that by 43-44 the speed of Jap CV is not so important. These BB are also not soo useful as surface units as the opposite is true, only fast Jap STF are needed as the war goes on. I would certainly convert 2.

Its a shame in AE that the Mogami is the only one of the class that converts that should be fixed???

instead of wasting steel, they could have taken the rear guns off their cruisers for free (like was done on the mogami)

(and then put those 8" guns onto coastal defence positions)

Why?

Why remove 40% of her main guns just so you can replace them with 5 floatplanes

put those 8" guns on saipan or somewhere useful

the most annoying thing is having plenty of planes, pilots, ground support
but no space on paper to put those planes into

so those ac sit rotting in the pools..

It was most likely a waste, but interesting fun fact: The flight decks of Ise and Hyuga actually had a poured concrete deck surface 3-8 inches in thickness. This saved metal and was intended to make up for the weight imbalance caused by the removal of the aft turrets.

Are the CLAA conversions worth it? The AA rating isnt great. But the AA guns themselves are of a higher quality iirc. Does this make a difference?

Those CLAAs have mostly heavy AA guns, definitely worth it.

The old Tenyru and Tatsuta can convert early in the game (2/42).

The other class that can convert is the Nagara's (6 ships) but these will not be available until 1/44. No reason not to convert them as they still keep their torpedoes whilst gaining better DCs and Radar.

Completely and utterly useless as BBCVs. Only good for the AAA. Would rather get a AAA upgrade and keep the big guns as well.

And they looked ridiculous as well.
