So first of all I really love this game - thanks for the best one of its kind....

Here are some questions - what are the better patrol ships - Escots or Frigates? In alter game Escorts seem to be very weak....

How can I manually retrofit everything - cause when I trade techs my advisor does not ask me to do it...I play witn the newest beta patch...

It would be great to see the xperience of troops - maby e with stars?

And it would be good if I can tell the colony how many troops they should always recruit - lik 12 or so...

And if the automatic tax would check out the happiness level - otherwise I have to do it myself all the time...

Thanks again for the great game....

Escorts are great if you keep them near your supply lines. They can't range too far from a fuel source and still be effective. They are great for at least distracting pirates long enough for your fleets to show up and save the station/freighter that was getting attacked. Frigates, on the other hand, are very good in numbers as a system-defense craft, or long-range escort duty. At least, that's how I use them. There's really no wrong way. Frigates are relatively cheap. Escorts are even cheaper. Both mainly serve to distract the enemy until your Destroyers or bigger ships can show up, although a group of Frigates is more than capable of handling Pirates.

There should be a setting in Empire Policy for Ship Design automation. I don't usually design my own ships, so I normally have this on auto. All you would have to do is change it to Manual. Worth noting that the next series of patches will make the entire Ship Design deal a lot more acessable, with more automation flexibility.

I agree. Right now if you mouse over a troop you can see their organization, strength, and I think experience. It would be nice if troops were displayed as a numerical value, and maybe got their own box when you clicked on them that broke everything down real nice.

Agree. A minimum troop setting for your colonies (to work in conjunction with Automated Troops Recruitment) is something i've been wishing for for awhile.

Manual Taxes are worth investing the time in. It's really not as bad as it looks--you only have to mess with the taxes every couple years, unless you really want to fine-tune it.

That's strange. On Automated it should prompt you periodically to retrofit your fleets, with a little advisor popup in the corner. It will even tell you why they're retrofitting.

If you're not getting that and it's automated, it must be because you did not check the box in your empire policy. Should say something like "Prompt for retrofit" and is located right below the Ship Design drop-down.

I did - the straneg thing is - after a while it does not ask me anymore....on the newest bet patch - and i am trading techs a lot...then it never appears - just when I do research myself...

What do i need to do to trigger the next story event - have explored the Ancient ways and have all stories activated from Distand Worlds on...what do i need to do next?

How can I bombard a planet? I could not conquer one because of 800k troops - but did not know how to bombard those guys...

My colonial advisor keeps on prompting me with plantes that i cannot colonize yet - that should be fixed ;-)

And it takes half an eternity to order one of my contsruction ships to build a mine at a resource place from the strategic planing screen...I am payling the biggest size of the universe and have 100 contrsuction ships ;-) and 300 mines by now...

So I am swimming in money with 10 resorts - have up to 1.5 Million credita a month ;-) So I build huge fleets - no Shakturi yet - finally after 5 years the advisor asked me again to retrofit ;-)

Seem to have a big issue with silver mists - in one shipgraveyard there are 10 1500 health silver mists - must have been fed by contruction ships from alien factions - any idea how to still kill them - any good tactic with silver mists?

Do you control planets that haver other races on them, sometimes thier population gets large enough to allow you to colonize planets that you currently don't have the tech for your own race.

Ion weapons are your only bet against Silvermists. I'd recommend designing your own ships to deal with them, as the AI-designed ones can't always do it without massive numbers.
