I started playing the game some PBEM when it was released but finally gave up. Frankly I was getting a little overwhelmed. I've managed to play WitP-Admiral as the Japanese and managing supply and production, so I don't think I'm unable to get there, but I am finding dealing with the Soviets in the campaign a bit too much. Perhaps I am just being dense. I have read some of the 1st Turn threads and suggestions. Finally I punted.

With the new update, I thought I would go back to square one and try again. Has a revised manual been released? The one that came with the game left so much out that it was not much use. I think an explanation of just What To Do is not enough in terms of moving air back to STAVKA, or setting HQs at certain levels. I am trying to understand the Why To Do as well.

Can someone point me to the best current source for this type information? Also the Turn 1 threads really don't have as much on Why To Do.

Basically I'd appreciate any constructive advice I can get.

Also, what AAR as Soviet would be most recommended to follow?

I think your main problem is that you ignore the conflict itself (the Eastern Front)

You should minimum know the plans, operations and doctrines of the Germans and Soviets. This is MUCH more instructive than any AAR out there. At least it was instructive to me

Because the rest is about using your many counters. Once you grasp the rules, go ahead, simply let the historical plans, operations and doctrines inspire you. In a sense it's much easier in WitE... It's all about advancing eastward or westward... one side pushes, the other tries to resist.

I think my problem is really trying to understand the system mechanics. I've been reading WIE for 30 years and playing games on it since DNO.

I see

Well, I would suggest Bletchley Geek's and Larry Fulkerson's AARs. But any other will do the trick. I also have an AAR, but the problem is I stopped updating after turn 4 or 5 -then continued again. And you need one without interruptions.

Cheers

There should be a file titled What's New, which was part of one of the updates.  It's a comprehensive list of changes, up to that point.
