I havea new computer with windows 7 Professional installed. It is a Inspiron 620, core i5 processor and a 20 inch Flat panel monitor. When I play John Tiller's Campaign Series the icons on the map are so small that they hurt my eyes. I have used the hints in the RE: Windows 7 and JTCS, but still small icons and hexes. Any help would be appricated. Beleive I have missed something somewhere but can't figure it out. Thanks again

Try right click on the desktop icon-click on properties when that open about half way down the Campaign Series menu Properties, next to the word run make sure normal window is selected.
Then click on the compatability tab in the compatability mode area make sure it reads Windows XP ( Service Pack 3 ) That might help you sir.

All the Best

I fiddled a bit with this program to make a window for Steel Panthers WAW to run in. It does work for this 800x600 game. It just might work for your purpose.

You must be referring to 2-D view as you talk about icons, right?

Nothing to do with the operating system version, it relies on your desktop settings. If you are running a modern HD resolution of say 1920x1080 the 2-D views especially on a smaller display become very difficult to see.

The fix would be to change your display settings to a more moderate setting such as 1280x720 or even 800x600 before playing.

I have a 1920x1080 resolution on a 24" display and 3-D views work nicely, but I am a bit struggling with the normal 2-D view. Zoom-out 2-D is pretty useless but for an overall view of the battle map.

Hope this helps.

Alternatively, you could use the 3D views by pressing 1,2 or 3 on the keyboard.

Turning on unit bases and thermometers will help you see your units.

I am refering to 3D normal view. Highest resolution is 1600 x 900. Everything seems small, including text, so I will keep tring resolution sizes. I appricate all the help. Turning on unit bases does help but units are still small. Again I welcome all the help

What is your resolution?
I have a five year old computer and use a 32" flat screen TV as a monitor.
The clarity and size of the unit, while playing the game is fine.
I remember playing on a 21" monitor and it was O.K. too!

If you play in 3-D I suggest using unit bases. Turning on the thermometers as Jason mentioned. Also, I play with reachable hexes, that highlights where a unit can move (though I switch back and forth between visible hexes and reachable hexes). Range, which displays how many hexes a unit can reach out and touch the enemy, with hard and soft attacks.

I hope that helps.

I use 2-D when I play larger scenarios. And, mostly for movement.
I like to fight on the 3-D level regardless of scenario size.

Interesting. I am using 1920 x 1080 and 3D view #1 on my laptop, they don't look too bad to me?

Jason, you gave me a scare.
I thought I was looking at my own monitor and the game!
The only thing else I would have switched on is range and reachable hexes.

While the looks are similar, a lot of graphics have been changed/replaced.

The engine has been changed.

All the OOB's have been completely rebuilt from scratch.

All scenarios are brand new and DG scenarios do NOT work in Middle East due to the numerous changes.

Just curious, but do any of these changes affect the original game?

Changes to the game won't be implemented into a Campaign Series UPDATE until feed back has been received from those who play Modern Wars: Volume I.

So will the CS get the 1.05 patch at the same time as the MW is released?

So the CS owners have to wait for feedback about a supposedly completely different game before we get the patch? What will comments about MW have to do with CS if MW is a completley different game?

It will decide if some of the features of MW will be implemented into CS.

This is nothing new.

Nothing new? I don't understand. IF MW is supposed to be a new/seperate game from CS, why would ANY input about MW be implemented into CS? People already have long lists of suggestions and "wants" for CS in a few threads already posted. Aren't those suggestions and wants the priority? Or is that all just a big waste of breath?

Yes and we are fully aware of those long list of wants for CS and they (or most) will be included in the 1.05 UPDATE when we start to 100% focus on it. That won't happen until after Modern Wars: Volume I is released. While we are working the 1.05 UPDATE, we will decide if we will ADDITIONALLY include some (or all) of the features of Modern Wars: Volume I into the 1.05 UPDATE based on feedback from the players of Modern Wars.

This has been the scheduled process and will remain the scheduled process.

Okay. Sorry if I sounded a bit testy-confused. Never experienced this type of patching in a game before. I just hope any changes made in CS will have the option to NOT use them.
