I do well on ebay...

Actually, this time, I just got back from lunch and went to check to see what was posted during lunch and noticed that Mr. Mart had left the door open. So, being a good citizen, I closed it.

That's irrelevant. I couldn't care less what pseudodrationalization he had for his actions. Chechen filth should be fed to the hogs. Alive.

Makes me wonder where that laudable sentiment was a decade ago during the "Chechens are fighting for their freedom from the Russian oppressors" circle jerk.

Police are closing in. Suspect number two seems to be close to assuming room temperature.

Let's hoping he takes himself out before hurting any more bystanders / police.

The prospect of going door to door in a crowded suburb is terrifying to me. My guess is the younger one is either already dead or scared sh*tless. From what I understand he may be armed and I would really like to avoid an "I'll indiscriminately kill as many capitalist pigs as I can before going out in a blaze of glory" scenario.

I suspect he will use his last bullet on himself once he figures he can do no more damage. I'm with CB in that I don't care what his irrational "motive" was. It will make you insane when rational people try to understand irrational people.

I disagree. I think they were both too young to have come up with this sort of indoctrinated idiocy by themselves. I'd like to see this tracked back to the source.

And there we are... *slow sarcastic clap*

I'd rather that then the dog and pony show trotted out for that Norwegian psychopath of a couple years ago. You think THAT was a good show of the 'European justice model'? Ultimate *slow clap* on that one, mate.

Because having that lunatic spouting his poison into the popular press will really facilitate closure for the victims' families. Not. Just like this guy. No pictures for them. No remembrances. Let them and their terroristic ideology be constrained to the dustbin of history. I don't need to see him in court.

Although I agree with you on this rare occasion, I think its already too late. Their pictures have already been plastered all over the place by the media (which I think is creaming their shorts right now) and theyve already trotted out every living relative down to some third-cousins-uncles-ex-brother-in-laws pet hamster. Even got the father in Russia on the horn from what I heard.

No argument there. Unfortunately, the public at large is generally too generous to terrorists who dont succeed.

Yes. Me too. There's nothing saying that it couldn't be some sort of BS 'hybrid' philosophy too. Chechen freedom fighter wannabe meets nascent islamist meets disaffected teenager meets nihlist / anarchist meets anti-government conspiracy kook.

Hey, Timothy McVey was 27 when he carried out the Oklahoma City bombing. The young brother may have gotten swept up in his brother's hatred and gone along out of a sense of belonging or need.

It's often the young, impressionable ones that get caught up in this sort of nonsense. They think they're carrying out a noble and heroic act, when in fact they're ruthlessly and deliberately being taken advantage of because of their ignorance and naiveté. I know I'm stating an obvious point in this forum, but still...

It is my understanding/indocternation This all really starts to come to an International head when the "Islamic Spring" i.e. Iranian Revolution threatens the area. It is my understanding of the Soviet Docterine that the contagion would be held at the Afgan border rather than continuing the threaten the heart of Soviet oil and cotton resources. We [The US] on the other hand in a strange set of circumstances in 1980 with the Soviet Union seen as the evil empire .. thought that aligning ourselves with the enemy of my enemy would somehow endear ourselves to this radical scurge. Well after they were through with the Soviets and continuing to terrorize Chechnya .. and the Soviet Union falls ... "Zionism" became the target and Jewish Uzbek's made it to our shores escaping the "Religion of Peace". Soon thereafter ... 3 decades later find outselves dealing with the consequinces ..

My own viewpoint .. what might seem quite ignorant and harsh .. but I think the Soviets had it right ..It is unfortunate that whole groups of people with religious fevor threatens us but letting the war come to our shores only means tolerating more bombings and terror .. of course we lack political will to settle this question .. so we shall continue to find an answer ... Maybe the balance between cilvilization and religious fevor played out as terrorism is accepting evil in the world and simply reacting with measured force afterwards. ... the alternative is premptively killing them all ....

In a strange sort of bizarre way it's kind of Ironic that Boston , of all US cities should be the one to suffer a horrendously brutal terroist bombing attack from a "liberation terroist group". In the 1970's and early 80's south Boston was a major fund raising location for the IRA which at the time was conducting a terroist bombing campaign in the UK. My 1st thought when I heard/saw the news coverage of the attack was "is this some kind of twisted revenge bombing because of Boston's IRA support?"

No Steve, it's just a whacko. When I was going to MIT, I often went for a pint at the Plough and Stars at the corner of Mass Ave and Hancock. And yeah, I knew where some of my pennys were going, but I'm Irish, after all, so ... The Nation of Ireland has been attempting to unify for decades. The time of the gun is over, the time of incorporation is upon us. With all due respect to my friends in the UK, Ireland will be Ireland; North, South, whatever: Ireland.

Your suggestion the the Boston bombings had some sort of genesis in the Irish conflict is so bizarre as to defy logic. I ain't some IRA puke, and I ain't some RPP puke either. But you have your head up where the sun don't shine.

Symon my friend, you been doing the ganja too much! Re-read what I said. I was talking about irony. IRONY. Remember that? Apparently English lit at MIT skipped over that that . I wasn't attacking the Irish (I'm partly contaminated with that type of blood myself). So I'm assuming you started the John Jameison too early this afternoon and didn't finish reading my post before you started singing "The men behind the wire". Re-read my post again. PLEASE. And see if it's more like, "Wow isn't it IRONIC", than whatever you seemed to think it meant. My head is firmly in the sunshine (in fact I'm seeing it for the 1st time this year and I'm about to mow the lawn and take advantage of it!).

I was referring to Beslan, NordOst and a dozen other incidents which were every bit as horrific, soulless and unforgivable, which happened in Moscow and other parts of Russia that are every bit as urban and civilized as Boston and NY (which is to say that it was by no stretch of the imagination some spat in a village with fuzzy-wuzzies fighting amongst themselves). As I recall, the general western reaction to those events was something along the lines of "the f*****g Russkie commies had it coming for oppressing the poor Chechens". Maybe now the western public will begin to understand what we're dealing with here.

As for the other stuff, you are absolutely correct. What's more, the Russians have hundreds of years more experience with "warriors of Islam" then we do. They had successfully put down extreme islamist movements in the past. I'll let you guess how.

Steve - it appears this had nothing to do with the Irish question - but the fact that Boston was the site of a terrorist act was not lost on some commentators/pressmen over here. Blowing the arms and legs off innocent women and children is never funny is it - no matter the cause. The existence - and real purpose - of Noraid was well known this side of the pond - and not appreciated.....

I'm sure theres a very fine line between Irish and Fuzzie-wuzzie terrorists. I'm not sure what it is myself, but I bet there are people who can explain it.

Maybe the balance between cilvilization and religious fevor played out as terrorism is accepting evil in the world and simply reacting with measured force afterwards. ... the alternative is premptively killing them all ....

Were there Cossacks? lot's of big, ugly cossacks?

In a strange sort of bizarre way it's kind of Ironic that Boston , of all US cities should be the one to suffer a horrendously brutal terroist bombing attack from a "liberation terroist group". In the 1970's and early 80's south Boston was a major fund raising location for the IRA which at the time was conducting a terroist bombing campaign in the UK. My 1st thought when I heard/saw the news coverage of the attack was "is this some kind of twisted revenge bombing because of Boston's IRA support?"

I'm sure theres a very fine line between Irish and Fuzzie-wuzzie terrorists. I'm not sure what it is myself, but I bet there are people who can explain it.

I don't think there is any line between terroist and terroism. Or "Freedom fighters". If a "freedom fighter" has to resort to killing innocents , he's a terroist. And if you can't hold a revolution without resorting to terroism , your cause is doomed.

Did the "Founding fathers " resort to terroism? Vandalism , yes. Tar and feathers (a fraternity prank that got out of hand!), yes. But not terroism.

Give that man a cigar! Although to be fair, Cossacks are generally ugly, and usually big.

I'll give you one more. The big, ugly Cossacks were also in Georgia in the when the Georgians begged for Russian protection against the "warriors of Islam" and agreed to be annexed. An interesting tidbit which the western media conveniently forgot not that long ago when they were having that circlejerk about the mean, nasty Russian Commies oppressing the freedom-loving Georgians. Incidentally, I didnt see a lot of outrage about the more recent events in Georgia. I guess we only care when the Russkie Commies are involved.
