Is there an error? A screen shot would help.

If you check the Windows event log (especially the application one) can you see some error being logged for this?

I think that holds some generic info about the error, I was hoping for a call stack or something similar. If you reinstall and take it step by step do you see it again?

1. Install vanilla DW and check if it works.

2. Install ROTS and check if it works.

3. Patch ROTS and.....

So now I tried to download the game in that order you told me to do.
The vanilla DW works fine
The ROTS does not
and now I have forgot where to find the error info (I have a danish win-version so the names are different)

Good, since vanilla DW works we can at least confirm that the prerequisites are meat and this should not be a game install issue. Maybe the ROTS patch was not properly downloaded? You encounter the error even after patching ROTS to 1.5.0.8?

Is it possible, that DW legends can fix my problem, or do I have to wait for a result for my current problem?

Hi jnpoint

I couldn't guarantee that simply installing Legends over the top will fix anything.

I think the most likely problem here is a corrupted installation.

Your event log says that you are having an ApplicationException - these are deliberately thrown errors that occur when something is wrong with the installation (e.g. missing files), etc.

I'm surprised you are not seeing a proper popup message though - those problems are generally displayed nicely to the player.

It's also possible that your Danish regional settings might be messing up the game startup. You could try switching to English regional settings and see if that makes any difference.

One thing to check in your current installation: You should have an image file named upgradefighters.png in the folder C:\[DISTANT WORLDS GAME FOLDER]\images\ui\chrome\ (where [DISTANT WORLDS GAME FOLDER] is the path where you installed Distant Worlds). Does this image file exist? This was added in a later update to ROTS, but may have somehow been missed in your update.

Thanks
Elliot

Yes, I do have upgradefighters.png in the folder.

I would definitely try a full reinstall from original files. I'm fairly certain this is the cause of your problem.

The 1.5.0.8 update for ROTS is available for download from this page:

Thanks

Have you tried installing as the Administrator user on your computer? Some of the files may not be installed due to some security settings.

You could also try disabling any anti-virus/malware-scanning software prior to installing.
