Hi,

I just bought ATG last Monday and am playing my first game. It is a new random game and I used the editor to modify the names of the countries and a few other simple things. I THOUGHT I turned off Oil usage but apparently I did not. The map has no oil or other resources on it and the only way to make oil is the synthetic form, which is killing production. The AI, as noted in the manual, has free oil so it has no problem.

Is there any way to go into a saved game with the editor and change any of the rules, such as oil usage?

There is, but only if you in the editor remembered to check an option allowing you to do it. I have a feeling you wheren´t aware of that option.

You can find it under settings.

For a challenge, see if you can beat the AI without using oil yourself. So no tanks and planes, only horses, artillery, AT guns and grunts.

...and sticks and stones.

Hey, that might be a neat mod.....literally a Stone Age mod. Rocks and stuff, archery, research bronze casting, gunpowder. Ha, that's how to smackdown the AI !

One more related question, does the AI use oil for its transfers or are they free? I notice the AI has oil but on the reports screen I see it always goes up in a perfectly linear fashion like it is not being used for anything.

To be honest I don't know, and it doesn't matter either because the AI has so much oil and ore that it can do anything it wants to do. I gave up bombing AI oilwells and oremines *long* ago.  It just does't matter, you can bomb any and each oilwell the AI has and it *still* will be able to move it's forces. Not so with supply though, that is an AI achillesheel. Cut him off, bleed him dry and he's toast.

It's really one huge shortcoming of the game right now is all the freebies the AI gets.
