Since Hitler was obsessed with the occult, was there ever a SS Paranoral Department or Division?

and yes I love Indiana Jones movies, however that is not why I am asking this question...

As far as facts go, there was a Nazi expedition to the Tibet, but it was more anthropological (in the sense of the 1930s) than anything else. There's a lot of fantasy written by the "Chariots of the Gods" crowd, whose credibility is close to nil. Hitler's "obsession" with the occult doesn't have anything of especial in the 1920s Germany where teosophy, mediums and astrology ran rampart as the society they had known was collapsing around them.

I always thought Himmler was more the "occult" kind of guy...

Ok. No laugh, no Indiana Jones... I guess this was a Hollywood story, nothing else. I enjoyed the movies AND the PC games! Along with Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion and Alone in the Dark, they are authentic gems. Now if someone can provide some information...

What about the old Wolfenstein 3D?

There is proof that he was involved with the paranormal.

From a German TV show i learned the following, but never searched for additional proof (not my favourite topic) :

It was rather Himmler than Hitler who was into the occult. He was especially interested in witches and their fate. Background was that they wanted to proof that "good" German females were hunted by bad "anti German blood" groups (pick your group here) for centuries. But the investigations didn't proof that.
In that show they said the Russians were surprised finding papers that mention "Hexen" (witches) so often. Who wouldn't be ?

Peter Padfield's"Himmler"is a very good biography of this strange and, when he achieved power, dangerous creature.

The co-relation of fear, desperation and superstition, very true.

My prefered was DooM II God knows I unloaded amazing quantities of adrenaline LOL

Then after waiting years for DooM III... very disappointing Linear idiocy. But then the Russians (or Ukrainians, I think) did STALKER. Magnificent and dark, as it should be. And of course no linear thing.

Rather intimately involved I'd say.

Studiengesellschaft für Geistesurgeschichte‚ Deutsches Ahnenerbe e.V. ("Study society for primordial intellectual history, German Ancestral Heritage, registered society")

... renamed in 1937, as Forschungs- und Lehrgemeinschaft das Ahnenerbe e.V. ("Research and Teaching Community the Ancestral Heritage, registered society")

See ...

So, yes, there were SS units involved in what might loosely be called "paranormal" stuff.

Correct. Hitler thought that most of Himmler's obsessions were pure nonsense.
