I brought this topic up a several months ago, I can't find my original thread. The cupboard was bare then, but a few months on the stocks are not much better. Is there a lack of devs out there producing good war games, doesn't seem to be any new dudes on the block. I am resorting to old games. Has Panther Dave given up on developing further titles? Just wondering.

Far from it. Cmd Ops is due to get the patch really soon, with updated HTTR maps/scenarios to take advantage of the new engine features as an expansion/scenarios pack.
Once this is out the focus will be on the Eastern front module.

I've noticed the lack of new developers and coming soon wargames here at Matrix.

If I come across something I pass the info onto Matrix.

Yes! I also wonder what is in the pipeline. Will we see anything besides the new Distant Worlds expansion before Christmas? Only Erik knows!

All Quiet on the Western Front.

Waiting for the 2by3 announcement of WitW and maybe WIF or Heroes of Stalingrad get finished - sometime.

Well, the good thing is we have a pretty good selection to choose from and play for the rest of our lives, right now. Sure, we want new stuff. But, just think if we had to live without any more new games with the ones from the 90s. Good games, but nowhere near as good as what we have now.

Silver lining?

Yes Gilmer, but in 15 years time you'll be saying that about games that have come out today. There is always room for improvement. We aren't at perfection yet in any genre. A long way off yet.

.. or it was a reference to the fact TheLordz (the guys from Panzer Corps) have a WWI game in development - from what I've seen of it, it's going to be the definitive WWI game, no monster game, but ultra-playable and with lots of chrome

This.

Was also a reference to WitW. Sorry, if anyone got excited in expectation of a new WW1 title.

Hey guys, I'm feeling the same way. I feel blessed with what already has been released though. I feel quality is much more important than quantity but it seems when a quality game is released some people beef because it's not at the same price as a quantity wargame. I was extremely dissapointed with the cancelation of Carrier Force . I've wasted alot of money one great titles that aren't even installed on my desktop, since I have a game that will last me the rest of my life Admiral's Edition I've decided to wait for another top notch naval oriented title or not buy anything at all.

I'm probably in the minority but I would love to see 2by3 games come out with a third WAW with many of the features in War Between The States.

Not sue I'm very keen on the precived scale of The Lordz WW1 game. Hardly any hexes make up the entire West front.

I don't have any money now and even if I buy something new, I end up playing Armored Brigade almost all the time anyway, so I don't care much about new releases.

GMT games have one game being made into a PC game and several for IoS and android. They are also in talks with someone about Combat Commander and two others. They also have a big list they want converted and are looking for developers.

Sure - and that's just like it needs to be - gridlock on the Western front, manoeuvering on the Eastern front and everything imaginable happening on the Southern & Turkish fronts.

Yes I agree. I made that comment when it was first announced.

What WW1 game?

Commander : The Great War

The engine was completely re-written from scratch so while it might look like this is just Commander : Europe at War with different units, nothing could be further from the truth - more info :

We tend to avoid announcing things until they are close to completion because of the complexities of making games and the number that get delayed or fall by the wayside. To be honest it is rare for one to arrive when expected! Even then one's we're expecting to finish soon can be delayed months or even years. We have severe backlash from unhappy customers on these and we want to avoid disappointing people.

The biggest issue is many of the developers working on wargames are only part time or volunteer as the money isn't there to fund large full time teams. Even if there is a full time team member they often are backed up and supported by volunteers or part timers.

Very true. Hence the delay with Modern Wars: Volume I.

There's a lot in the works, but we don't announce until they get close to release and many have been delayed. With that said, we are not just Matrix now, we are Matrix and Slitherine and the combined release schedule has seen some major releases this year. We have several releases still aiming for a release before the holidays, but we are going week by week and making sure they are ready before we set a release date.

Regards,

- Erik

I was kinda suspecting that getting a stable paying job is a good idea when wanting to develop games that one wants to exist instead of games that the masses want. I wonder if it's worth to take a specialisation in AI in such situation...

As you are now a joint company can I suggest 2 things

1 You have joint fora rather than having the learning split. I don't have the time/enthusiasm to look at WITE on both
2 You organise the games on the fora in a logical sequence. They seem random and I still can't find WiTE easily
