Since there doesn't seem to be any "forum help" readily identifiable, a quick question: does the green button apply globally, or just to the current thread? I've had many cases where I'd like to block someone's posts in one thread, but not everywhere. I've never been clear about this one.

nope.....Green button is all or nothing. Either the offending poster gets blanked in full (any present past or future threads) or not at all.

Thanks, guys.  That's what I expected but wanted to be sure before I ever decide to use it.  There has actually been only one poster I've ever wanted to block permanently, and he was kicked out of the forums long ago (could be back, of course, but doesn't seem to be).  Usually it's someone being obnoxious in just one thread.  That's why eyeballs are connected to the "ignore" function in the brain!

Who you going to green button? who? who? Can I watch? Huh, can I? I'll be good and just watch. Can I? Pretty please. I've never seen a green button. I'll be quiet; I promise.

Personally I've never felt the need to use the green button on this forum, but it's a real shame there is no such thing in he real world - especially as its party conference season at the moment .

FYI, it also blocks them from sending you PM's.

I only green buttoned 1 person and I agree that at times in rl it would be a handy thing.

It's definitely a useful feature. Find myself using it more often rather than listening to the same old stuff from certain people.

I've never felt the need to green button someone. I don't really see much of what happens ignore worthy and what little I do I don't have a problem just not reading.

It does bug me when people who ignore someone then turn around and feel the need to post about it in the thread, further inflaming whoever they're ignoring. Thanks oodles for the drama.

Works almost as well as a tall, cold glass of rum punch!

Also, remember you can un-green button someone at any time. You could green button an individual when you are reviewing the thread that contains the posts you don't like. When you leave the thread of concern you can un-green button said individual.

That is especially helpful when you are trying to read an interesting thread and a nice but persistent person keeps interjecting the same thoughts over and over. You green button just long enough to supress the redundancy and then restore it when you are done.

This is good to know. Haven't felt the need for some time (as I said, the intended victim has been banned and doesn't seem to have resurfaced), but you never know. Now if I could just get LinkedIn to come up with an equivalent...

My green button has a population of one , I can safely say it will never grow or decrease in size. In a perfect world a green button also works on people quoting the source but you can't have everything.

My hearing is bad enough that I just might be able to green button IRL. And I got Headphones to block out the sirens at work...sort of a mechanical green button. I use the headphones when my daughter is throwing a tantrum......she HATES it!

Sometimes it's a commutative relationship...
