Akyab south. Flanking movement is going on. I have a small HQ unit that will move into the contested hex closeing off the east hex side. Then they will move to the south hex side and try to close that off. If he retreats I will follow and keep trying to flank him. Ramree Island is being prepped for, If I do this he will have to fall way back or be cut off and destroyed.

Personally I love this approach. Very subtile... rather than try and overwhelm AV to AV and fight a WWI contest I sense you are using the game mechanics to your advantage in that you are matching AV / firepower to pin forces in a hex while your maneuver forces penetrate deeply into the enemy LOC. Either the IJ retreat or get pinned, surrounded, and buchered .... I beleive Burma offers this opportunity unlike any other area because your defense value is also increased for his counterattacks ... a perfect stalemate within the hex while armor maneuvers [One might argue that Oz offers such an opporunity, but I contend the clear terrain of Northern Oz in my opinion means that simply matching AV results in an effective couterattack rather than pinning .. also the clear terrain opens up the 4E terror campaign combined with direct armor attacks makes the more direct approach of overwhelming fiirepower and AV a better choice ]

I like this maneuver more in the Irrawaddy Valley, only that this is going to draw the attention of the IJN. Allied forces near the coast are going to receive bombardment and at the very least get disruption .. combined with air attacks and the IJ can severely delay your maneuver and attrite your forces ...

Aces:  Thanks,  I'm not a big fan of WW1,  I like to shoot, move and communicate.  I wonder why I like to do that.  I would rather do my combat in the Irrawaddy valley also, but can't at the moment.  Both Jap and Allied forces would be open to nav bombardment, but I haven't been able to do it in a non base hex.  I think I did long time ago, but have tried since the last patch and it didn't happen.  So if I can't he can't, and that takes nav bombardment out of the equation.  I would almost like to see him try and nav bombard me.  I think I could attrit his naval forces some.

This last SAG is still in the MB hex and recon shows it heading east. My PT boats did not engage and I don't like it. A6m5's sweep and escort Helens to MB. Our CAP do a great job. 63 Zeros shot down or forced to crash along with 14 Helens. We lose7 F4Fs, 7 P40Ks, and 6 P39s. A squadron of P38s sweep Rangoon and get tore up 12 are lost. Most of my CAP is damaged and can't fly out. I'm not for sure if I should bring more in, like I had planned. I have 35 operational with 6 more that might be able to fly tomorrow.

My amphib TF is safe one hex away from MB. They will withdraw for a few hexs then try and go back in later. I need the aviation support at MB now. I didn't see his SAGs on nav search. But I am happy how my ships performed. CL Concord did a great job before she went down. I hope my subs get some chances at the wounded ships.

I don't think Koniu can do this for more than a few more days. The morale of his pilots has to be low now and in a few more days they should be easy pickings for my fresh pilots.

Overall not a bad day, I wished my PT boats would have gotten into the fight and my P38s would of performed better but oh well.

I am prepareing for the next offensive invasion.  I haven't decided if I will wait for Hellcats or not.  I want to strike as soon as possible but I also like what you guys are saying about waiting till I get them.

I am not sure why my supplies are not flowing to Shwebo.  I am pushing them south.

I think its the right call! Not that far off from the Hellcats anyway. And they will make a ton of difference. Even using very green pilots I have had no problems with Zeroes at all and even do well against Georges.

Burma
The stack of Jap units south of Akyab has moved 1 hex south.  Still trying to get supplies to Shwebo.

MB
Koniu sends a BB, CA, and 3 DDs to attack my transports.  He meets CL Cleveland and 3 DDs during the day time.  We lose a DD he has on DD with Heavy damage and fires and another with heavy fires. BB and CA both took 6 in hits and the CA collided with a DD.  Cleveland took a few hits but no major damage.  God those modern CLs are good ships.  Troops and supplies are ashore so transports will head back to Oz.  TI has a USN BF and enought supplies to support fighters.

The rest of the world is quiet.

Shwebo
Bombed.  Koniu loses about 10 bombers with another 20 plus damaged.  AF is fine supplies didn't drop so some must be getting their.

Rangoon
I see 2 SAGs, one of them looks like they might make a run up the coast.  I don't know if its a bombardment run or what.  I have TBs and DBs on alert.  Also have a SAG close by just need to guess the right target for this TF.

Solomons
Night bombing at MB no hits. I did hear a ship sinking wonder what sunk.  It wasn't one of mine maybe one of the 2 DDs that took a beating the other day. I know one is still afloat a Dutch sub took a shot at it and missed.

Makin
2 different TFs are present at this base.  One looks like a SAG.

Adak
3 subs patroling off of this base.

+1 !
I have been having so much fun playing what-ifs that I have no great desire to go against another player yet. Don't want to disappoint them with my wandering attention. While playing crazy scenarios, I am learning a lot about what happens in certain situations and what the strengths and weaknesses of various units are. E.G. I started out thinking the old US BBs could demolish the Japanese CAs and DDs easily ... until they got their anchors and screws handed to them! Leader changes and lots of training[ patrols and bombardments] + radar upgrades made them a credible force.

Awesome! I have not played with the database yet, but some of the things I wanted to see in play were:

No surprise attack
Premise - the US codebreakers break the code and are able to read the Japanese plans at 5 AM Dec. 7th.
Orders given: Every unit is warned and mobilized. Sailors and airmen are rousted out of the bars. Subs stream out of PH seeking the enemy carriers, two TFs of 4 BBs/4DDs each blast out of the port headed north at full speed, followed by several TFs of Cruisers and DDs/DMS/DMs. Minor vessels harass the subs around PH. Bombers head for the KB, fighters escort and CAP PH.
In other commands, someone persuades MacArthur to stop calling his mommy and order the bombers and subs into action, and evacuate unnecessary shipping. Force Z escapes Singapore. British aircraft stage up the Malay Peninsula to attack landings.
Results: The allies cannot sortie until after the night naval movement phase, but in the day phase the BBs and several cruiser/DD TFs find KB. The actions are brief because KB runs, but two CVs are heavily damaged and finished off next day. Two others have moderate damage that slows them a bit.
The hard-wired strike on PH finds no ships in port so it messes up the Port and Dockyard a bit. Three weeks repair. There were no strikes against the TFs attacking KB until Dec. 8th. Air attacks from PH achieved almost nothing, but a few KB aircraft were shot down. BB California was sunk as was CA San Francisco and one of the large CLs. Hiei was left in bad shape with fires.

On subsequent days the replenishment AOs were found and all sunk, KB was harassed by cruisers as it retreated toward Japan and lost two more CVs.
Lexington and Enterprise smashed the landings at Guam and sank four CLs. Philippine and British forces had some minor successes but could not stop the Japanese.

Japanese attack Russia as well as US/Britain

Premise: Japan is confident that the Russians have their hands full with Hitler attacking Moscow, so they decide the vast Russian resources in Siberia are easy pickings. They start their forces marching on Dec.7th but it takes a few days to cross the frontier. Recon flights tip off the Russians that something is brewing and they activate before the Japanese troops arrive.

Orders: Fort building begins immediately and units in the north Strat move to key areas in the south. Air units pull back from the front and begin training in low ground attack and strafing.

Results: Most Japanese assaults are shock attacks across rivers and they suffer heavily, but gain a foothold on the other side. Russian artillery is good, but Japanese bombing raises hell with disruption and supplies. The Russians are pushed back in most areas north of Voroshilov and south of Ulan Ude. The Russian DDs and most of the merchant ships escape to the north of Sakhalin and go to Petropavlovsk and then Alaska. Russian subs have working torps and Japanese ASW still sucks.

As you can see, I had to play both sides in order to orchestrate the beginning of the scenario. I did start a standard Scenario 1 against the AI but it was taking too long to get to the point where I could experiment with the things I did not know/understand about game mechanics and unit capabilities. It took me forever to figure out how to launch my first Amphib operation and, of course there were numerous errors from lack of knowledge and from eyes glazing over with all the click work.

Interested to see if you can arrange a duel between Alaska and Kongo with equal numbers of DDs. Alaska's experience stats might need to be bumped up a little as I think she spent a lot of time working up before being put into the shooting war.

BB: The editor is actually pretty easy to mess with. I did the sorie from Pearl move and it didn't work. I haven't tried the Russia move yet. Give me a cpl days and I'll try the Alaska vs Kongo battle. I don't think the Alaska would last. If I put Fletchers in the group maybe. I would like to see the purposed BC 64 vs Alaska.

I did put the BC 64 class in my mod along with some other stuff for the Japs. I strengthed the Allies early in the war and the Japs some in the early and more in the later part. For what I have gotten done.

Oh crap the Yamato. Yes, the Yamato was the bombardment SAG and I guessed right. So our CA, CL, and 5 DDs go up againist 3 BBs and 4 DDs. Battle was a draw. We do lose 8 MLs. One of the BBs gets hit with a TT from HMAS Norman. She was the hero of one of the Ambon naval battles. We only lose 3 Hurri IIc's in the bombardment.

Not much else happens bunch of sub action with no hits. Koniu was not happy with the naval battle.

Here you go BB.  I ran this several times and it always ends up about a tie.  All the DDs are around the mid 43 time frame on upgrades and such.  The Alaskas guns will penetrate Kongo at close range.  I was suprised to see that.  If the DDs would shoot their TTs at the big ships instead of the other DDs, you might see a different result.

Well that was inconclusive! Which side decided to break off the battle? What if they fought at night when ranges were closer and the US radar negates the Japanese spotting advantage? Thanks for doing that, by the way

I am not surprised that Alaska's 12" shells could penetrate at close range. They were a new model with high muzzle velocity and the US had excellent heavy AP shells.
Kongo's BC armour would have been designed to keep out 8" shells, since BCs were originally supposed to chase down cruisers such as Admiral von Spee's squadron, which raided in the Pacific throughout 1914. Armour thickness was sacrificed to get higher speed and the biggest guns available.

BB: I ran a few of those also.  About the same results for night and day.  Breaking off,  I don't remember.   I'm about half tempted to do a Yamato vs Montana straight up fight.  I need to put the BC 64 class in my mod and I might run that one.  Your welcome by the way.

So I forgot to send Koniu the turn yesterday.  DOHHHHHH!!! Koniu is out and can't do a turn today.  So I decided to open it up and make some changes.  I decided to see if I can mine some ports by air. I'll let you guys know how it works.

So I have time and decided to list the damaged ships from the recent naval battles.

CV Lexington 37 day for minor then more to get to a big enough port to fix all the major damage
CV Enterprise 53 days for all
CVE Nassau 55 for minor then to move and find a port that can fix all the major
BB Royal Sovereign 63 for minor then movement to Cape Town
BB Ramillies 17 days for minor then movement to Cape Town
Ca Portland 10 days for minor then movement to another port for major
CA Pensacola 43 days for all
CL Cleveland 57 days for minor then movement to a bigger port for major damage
CL Nashville 43 days for minor and so on
Plus numerous DDs.

I just hope that he has as many ships in the repair yards as I do.  If not he's going to start meeting my BBs in combat.

Carriers unknown

Not much happened.

Perth
I 25 is attacked by DD Foxhound.  12 hits and heavy damage on the sub.

Rabual
We hit an AO.  It had heavy fire when it was last seen with its fuel cargo burning.  Our sub took one good hit for putting a TT into the AO.

We mined two harbours.
