I've been playing the HUD3 1.55 version of "Reinforcing the Northern Flank" (great scenario) and I'm seeing something odd that I've never encountered previously.

My Strike Group, even when set to strictest EMCON, is lighting off it's SS radar and I can't get the dummies to shut it down except to go into the formation editor and do so manually for the individual ships.

Now what's really interesting is that the AI actually chose the best ships for AAW (Slava and Kiev) to have their radars on, but left the other less capable ships alone.

Is this intentional? I'm thinking it might be, given that during the scenario you get a constant barrage of "New Air Contacts" - maybe it's making them nervous enough to disregard my instructions? If so, is there no way to completely ovverride them except my aforementioned workaround?

Because lighting off those radars attracts Harpoons like moths to a flame...

Hi

I think the behavior is by design, however, you might trying playing with the reality level in the H3 Launcher and share the results so others can appreciate the behavior.

Thank you!

Ok, I'll give that a shot. Sometimes I'll think I found a bug, but then realize it's the friendly AI trying to keep itself alive despite my best efforts.

I know that on one run-through of this scenario, the only thing that saved the Kiev was the Slava lighting up (against orders) when some a/c made a guided missile attack (Harpoons IIRC), which I didn't even notice since I had been lulled into complacency by all the (maddeningly constant) ESM detections of aircraft in the distance.

When one of those ESM contacts started getting really strong (and I'm only guessing here, since I didn't notice it was happening until Grumbles started flying), the Slava somehow knew it had to light up and defend the task force - which it did beautifully. Overall, I was quite pleased but then I noticed that a big reason those a/c come calling in the first place is that my AAW specialists were disregarding EMCON and, shall we say, were soon justifying their own existence!

Well, I've been playing around with this, and the EMCON violations are irrespective of Staff Assist (aka Realism) level. And they only occur with HUD 1.5.5 and 1.6.1. The earlier HUD 1.5.0 operates normally.

Even with all Assists off, individual ships in the formation will light off their radars and ECM despite their mission specifying strict EMCON. You end up having to manually turn off each ship's radar and ECM. Just telling the Group to turn them off won't do it.

It doesn't matter if the Group is assigned to a mission or not. Even if you do nothing, the Group starts up with various Radars and ECM lit up, which you then have to individually turn off ship-by-ship.

This is the "Reinforcing the Northern Flank" scenario in the HUD 1.6.1 and 1.5.5 databases.

Ok, sounds like you got a live one. If you could email me YOUR scenario, and a SAVE GAME from YOUR system and the DATABASES in a ZIP file via EMAIL The reason for this is to ensure we have reproduced your setup exactly, to the last byte. support@advancedgaming.biz.

I've created an entry in our bug tracker, just need the ZIP to put it into the queue. #0003058

I do very much appreciate your running this to ground... if you ever want to talk about joining the Dev team.....
