The glorious field extends into the lands of the Ottoman Empire with Eternal Empire!

Slitherine (, Matrix Games ( and Hexwar ( are thrilled to announce that Field of Glory – Eternal Empire, an expansion for the award-winning ancients strategy game Field of Glory, is now available for both the PC and Mac platforms! With the release of Eternal Empire, the Field of Glory system now boasts an impressive 124 historical battles with 1,235 different battle groups! Launching at the same time as the Eternal Empire expansion is also the comprehensive 1.6.0 update for the Field of Glory system. The update includes fixes to the engine and D.A.G. as well as a few rule tweaks.

As a special discount for early adopters, Field of Glory – Eternal Empire will be priced at $19.99 for the first week after release. After that, its stand-alone price will increase to $24.99.

Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory is a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame available for PC and Mac Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the digital version accurately represents ancient and medieval combat where players make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield.

Now Field of Glory heads to the mighty Ottoman Empire with Field of Glory – Eternal Empire! This army pack covers the armies of the Ottoman Empire along with the armies of its enemies and allies (1299 to 1500 AD). Eternal Empire also comes with over 200 new battlegroup graphics and supporting information from within the D.A.G. lists in addition to over a dozen new exciting historical battles.

Please note: Field of Glory – Eternal Empire REQUIRES ownership of the original full Field of Glory game.
  • 46 different armies cover the Ottoman Empire along with the armies of its enemies and allies (1299 to 1500 AD).
  • 20 new historical battles
  • 89 new battle group images in the scenario editor for Eternal Empire owners.
  • Variable Army Sizes. The number of battle groups available to a D.A.G. army now changes depending on the number of points selected.
  • Themed Armies; Where a player owns more than one different D.A.G. license, when issuing and accepting challenges for a specific D.A.G, armies from D.A.G’s that cross over into the period covered are also available. See the in game help for more details.
  • Allied armies included in Eternal Empires have been added to existing D.A.G.’s e.g. Ilkhanid Mongols in Swords and Scimitars are now allowed ‘Golden Horde’ allies from the Eternal Empires D.A.G.
  • 20 new small random battle maps for D.A.G. games.
  • Rules for rear ranks of cavalry with missile weapons for newer D.A.G. Armies and for use in the scenario editor.
  • Immobile battle group/baggage wagon rules for existing historical battles and the scenario editor. See the help system for more details.
  • Complete battle list for each game supplement as part of the help system.
  • All reported D.A.G list errors have been fixed.
  • All reported crash issues have been fixed.
Get the update here. The update is comprehensive and will bring all previous versions of the Field of Glory system to 1.6.0. Get more information on Field of Glory – Eternal Empire from its official product page.

I'm wondering why the Field of Glory downloadable content is so much more expensive than DLC for other games. DLC for paradox games is generally around $2 to $5, and DLC for Civ5 is around $5 to $10 from memory. Even at $10 it is too much for what you get in DLC after the $$$ that have been spent on the core game. I'd love to get the DLC for FofG but, sorry, the price is too high.

From our perspective, these are definitely inexpensive expansions rather than expensive DLCs. Each one drives the game engine forward (and we offer those improvements free to existing customers regardless of whether they get the expansion or not) and adds a lot between new units, scenarios and the DAG. Given what I've seen in a lot of inexpensive DLCs as far as content goes, these would have to be considerably scaled back to fit a lower pricing model. Finally, the business model and pricing for mainstream releases does not translate to this niche, it's apples and oranges unfortunately.

You know, it took me a long time to buy this game. I looked at the pics and didn't see much to interest me. Looked like two lines of infantry mindlessly having at it. Not much strategy at all. Then I bought the game with RoR and found out how wrong I was. Just an absolutely great game. So I got the expansions. Since the content is free, they might be a bit overpriced but I don't care. I look at it as a way to help move the game forward and improve. Never felt that way about a game before in 30 years of computer gaming. I'm still learning the game and the few I've played so far have been incredibly fun. And, Erik, you know I complain more than praise. My two cents.

"(and we offer those improvements free to existing customers regardless of whether they get the expansion or not)"

You sure about that? I was told I would need to buy at least one expansion to get all the improvements (think it was for LoS). I'm willing to buy the base game to check it out but not if I don't get all the same features.
