The hexsides circled below: are they impassable? Or just an odd color?

Impassable hexsides are red. The colour is probably just from the combination of the hexside colour (for river hexside display) plus the orange border colour on the map art itself.

If i remember correctly these should be the correct colour meaning of hexside details:

Blu (ocean or lake side) Only Naval units movement allowed
Violet (river side) Only terrestrial units movement
Green Only terrestrial units movement
White Terrestrial and Naval movement allowed
Red Invalicable side

Those hex sides are violet but the color is corrupted by mixing with the national border art underneath them.

As far as I know only one of those hexsides is actually impassible. That one is the hexside located southeast of Akyab. I can vouch that this hexside is indeed blocked. Many players miss this and get in a lot of trouble at Akyab as a result. All of the other hexes that are in red on your map can be moved through.

I concur, that hex side is blocked. It's not one that he circled on his diagram, though.
