Rome wasn't built in a day...but I can make a galaxy in an hour!

In here you will find mods to replace the galaxy backdrop in game. For right now, there is only 1, but who knows what the future holds.

And now, the readme, since I like you to know what you are getting into before your get into it:

Thank you for downloading my Distant Worlds Galaxy backdrop. There are a few things you should know before installing.

IMPORTANT! THIS FILE WILL REPLACE YOUR EXISTING IN GAME GALAXY BACKDROP, IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAKE A BACK UP OF YOUR DISTANT WORLDS > IMAGES > ENVIRONMENT > GALAXYBACKDROPS

FOLDER!

Once you have made the backup, you can simply unzip this file into the Distant Worlds > Images > Environment > galaxybackdrops folder. The backdrop will over-write the existing one and

will be the one displayed the next time you start up distant worlds.

Enojoy.

As with all mods, you are freely choosing to download and install this mod. By choosing to install this mod, you are stating that the creator shall be blameless for any problems

encountered by your use of this file. While I have up to date virus scanning and all files are checked prior to upload, it is advisable that you virus scan any and all files that you

download to your computer.

Good to see it, Shark, will you work with anything less than galaxy size?

Possibly, though I will not be attempting to build Rome.

Nice backdrop Shark. It's A LOT of readme for one file, too. You are really serious about this stuff. Makes me think that I should do the same with my shipyards

I like this because it is sharp and clear.

I just discovered something new...
Playing with different galaxy shapes really changes the game and how to play it...

Hmmmm, come to think of it ,I never played with anything other than spiral and evenly spread galaxy... Is it really so different with other galaxy shapes?

Well, varied clusters will certainly have an impact....try ring also. There's a good aar on a ring one but I forgot which one; I'll reread it, it's worth it.

For me, it changed defensive strategies, listening posts, search strategies (what control I have over it)... it is not a small factor in how to play the game...
I usually play varied clusters...
Though I do want to play more regular clusters, sort of like SW rebellion.

Ahh, Rebellion reference again
Old games that are really good are always missed.

Guys I've actually been thinking of a backdrop more appropriate for the cluster and chaotic galaxies, so I will probably be releasing a couple of new ones.

Chaotic: random gas clouds with no rhyme or reason
Clusters: clustered gas clouds

We'll have to see what happens, can't work on it today though football season starts tonight and I have to go to all the home games (working).

I'm playing eliptical at the moment...you end up in the core, you're golden...its crowded in the outer ring.

Kalthaniell, here are a couple of examples

this one is Das's brilliant work on a ring map -> http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2495880&mpage=1&key=ring
here's a good one from Binge for varied clusters -> http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2726835

Came home at lunch and played around a bit, not finished, but a good start I think. As always, comments welcome.

Size reduced for load times and to fit your screen a bit better.

I need to try that next; as I said, galaxy shape really affect tactics...
And it is affecting my scouts too... in the Spiral galaxy, the do not easily cross from one arm to another...
Luckily I build AWACs destroyers or my scouts would have totally missed the Empire... and 50 some odd warships

I wish we had a little more ability to control technology, but apart from that this game really does a fantastic job with the elements it allows you to mess with...
