I haven't seen any mod which actually changes the physical size of the galaxy. As another poster has mentioned, changing the number of stars merely affects the density of stars, not the distance from one side to the other.

I would like to play with a higher number of stars, but at a lower density. Is this possible to mod in or is there a mod which does this?

Yes.  We have the technology to make it bigger.  It simply requires Elliot to do it in an expansion or reincarnation of the game.  Modding will not fix this disability.

Currently all you can do is add more stars....so that it's full of them.

I think also that now the game is running smoother than ever, we can be given the option to increase the galaxy size. It's been requested a few times before. I hope we get something BIG!

Cool thanks.

Is there a new expansion planned?

There is yes. We don't have any details as to how far along it is and beta testing hasn't been announced yet. I think we're all hoping by the end of the year.

I run Galaxies at 1400 with max Empires.
I do run my own combined mod with custom graphics and music for everything so not sure if that would affect things.
However I have a super computer that runs anything on Max without breaking a sweat but even so when I am close to the year 2800 in a game I cannot zoom out to max without somewhat jerky frame rates.
You don't experience this?

PS I'm not surprised by the results I get because of the sheer amount of stuff going on is phenomenal, I was just surprised when you said it was so smooth.

Oh yeah, I get a bit of a slow down when I've discovered about half the galaxy (on a 1400 star map), or when I've got more than 40 ships on screen doing battle, but that's to be expected. As you know I run alot of mods too.

I only meant that it's better than it's ever been. Compare it with the frame rates of the game just after release. It could still be improved and I'm sure Elliot continues to work on this.

It doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the game any. So I'm ready for bigger.

But only as an option mind you.
