Status: offline 		It's women's football (or soccer ) World Cup final today in Frankfurt, Germany.

Two-time world champion USA is the favorit, but also Japan have played really well.

Status: online 		Who are the players to turn down stupid money thrown at them by owners who never seem to get enough?  Sports are played for free by those that enjoy the games, children and young adults.  Professional sports (all of them) are strictly business driven by greed.

There's BIG money in college football. Lots of 'filthy' things creep into that sport as well. Not as much as professional sports. But, enough to tarnish the image in more than a few of us.

I wonder how many millions flow through the NCAA tournements. Lots of people or institutions are getting pretty rich. Sometimes I wonder if it just might be better to pay the athletes a modest standard salary that's out in the open. Might even keep some of them in school for another year. Wow, we've managed to take hijack an Off Topic thread and take it further afield.

As for today's soccer match, best of luck to Japan as they can inspire their ravaged nation with a victory, but I will be pulling for the good 'ole USA.

If the US is to survive economically in a globalized economy it will be in no small part due to the fact that we fully employ both halves of our population's abilities. US women are fearsome competitors, both on the field and in the economy. Our team may lose today, but they won't be psyched out or doubt themselves.

I, for one, will be watching and cheering them on, despite a lackluster understanding of the sport's rules and tactics.

Status: offline 		I've seen 3 matches so far, I must say I'm positively surprised. Maybe woman's football is not as entertaining as men's, because it's not so physical and they seem to make more mistakes. But still, they are playing well and the players are skilled. There have been great goals.

So if you like football/soccer, there's no reason not to like woman's football as well.

This is the reason I prefer to watch women's volleyball over men's volleyball. Men's games tend to be power and repetitive 'bump, set, spike - repeat.'

Women's games have less power (usually) and you see more rally play, which is a little more interesting.

(plus, women volleyball players are damn easy on the eyes. )

Indeed. My HS football stadium had a capacity of almost 40,000. Scary.

PS - Congrats to Japan. A shame we lost, but to use a baseball analogy we left too many (wo)men on base early and paid the price. Alex Morgan is the real deal for US Soccer, though. Perhaps the nation of Japan just needed it more today (although until the penalties we seemed to want it more on the pitch).

Agree. A great game, everything sports should be. Clean, except for one red card. Rallies, surprises, coaching tactics, and players digging deep in extra time when they clearly were exhausted. I don't think the best team won, but the one with the most points did. That's why you play the game. Japan can be proud tonight.
