Does the chance of a carrier task force reacting increase with an increase in the number of enemy carrier task forces sighted, possibly because each is checked individually? My speculation is that it does, and that can be a bad thing late game against Allied CV death stars.

Not questioning reacting itself. Despite 0 reaction and not aggressive commander, reaction may still occur. My question is whether a reaction is more likely when the number of enemy carrier task forces is greater.

For example, let's say there's a 20% base chance of reacting when checked against 1 enemy CV task force. If there are 2 enemy task forces, is this "check" done twice?

My experience has been that the more task forces involved, the more likely reaction will occur, but that is just my gut feeling. I was asking how the code really deals with this.

Mh, maybe ...... guess I have too limited exp in serious CV battles to answer....but....I have just seen in amazement a CA+CL force of mine chasing 1 Jap CL+DD right near 4 hexes away from truk

They had order to patrol a certain area and encountered the 2 enemy ships, damaged both.
And then the CO overides my order and chases the fleeing enemy in direction truk. My force was spotted by
enemy recon but was lucky and not attacked by air as the CO DECIDED to follow my new order to retire to the south.  The commander was the cpt of CA Dorsetshire, I guess quite agressive.

The chance of reacting is a function of the strength of the opposing CV TF. The stronger the opposing TF, the greater the chance that your TF will react and be obliterated...

I'm just thinking of Tron and imagining your CO getting court martialed by his User!

You could have changed the TF type to Escort once you wanted them to retreat from Truk- would have made initial retirement much more likely.

Well good idea, but there is so much to learn and keep track of in AE that i just forget such nice tricks / hints Guess a more organized person makes himself a list or such to reference while playing but this seems too bureaucratic to me....

@ I love strategy: There is no reason for court martial. This officer finally did a good job, he chased the enemy fleet off which certainly had the order to raid some places nearby where loading/unloading is in progress during the nightime. Well a CA belonging to the enemy fleet was damaged before by 1000lb SAP bombs and was probably send back in a seperate TF. The remaining 2 ships then were chased off by the Dorsetshire led fleet of mine. So the goal was reached, and only minor damage to own forces done.
