All you really need is gimp. You might try going for 3d editors but with small sprites around 300x300 it's just too much work. A good technique I used when I started making ships for DW is editing ships out of other ships parts. Using layers and some bluring tool is frankly all you need to get started. Once you're done with your hull it's always best to cut it in half and mirror it so it stays symmetrical.


Hurray! I have already used GIMP in the past!

Besides I read the official guide to modding...and i played a little with race stats.

On a side note:

He posted before his new post. If you look at the side he is the same author twice yet did not contribute "new" content. He showered you in the same praise two times in a row. That seems pointless.

Pushing means getting a new post in an old thread to make it come on top.

Kalthaniell - how do I replace the previous pirates ships with your shipset? I don't see a specific folder with the same # of ships for them in the game.

You replace the original pirate ships (if there's an option to replace them in customization folder I don't know about it). So make a backup.
Files you want to replace are located in Images/units/ships/other.
Just find the ones you like less and replace them with my pirate ships changing the name to match the original one.

Yep, the Mediafire links are fine but all Gamefront ones are down (apparently since long).

Edit: I mostly wanted to try the weapon effects mod at first. :)

Love your SINS Advent ships. I gave them to my beloved Securans. In any case it seems like the SINS Advent Matriarchy is a perfect fit for the Securans.

I must admit your ship graphics are superb,and they enhance this great game.I just love seeing new ship sets for the game,by the way have you ever heard off the game Spacedreadnought3000 it has some very nice looking ships,and I would love to see them included in the Distant Worlds Galaxy.

I've updated the first post link section with a link to some of my older ships. They aren't really part of the shipyard but I thought it will be easier if all my stuff is under one thread. :]

Thank you ^^ I never heard of it before. I like the general shapes of those ships. I'll certainly consider making something like that as a possible shipset. The next however will be Taiidani from Homeworld universe as requested earlier :]

Cheers I would really like to see the ships from Space Dreadnought 3000,it is a fast play ship models game.Some more different alien races 6 of which have great looking ships as per the photo in this link.

The thing about most Freespace mods is that they tend to use ships that already exist in the universe, seeing as most mods tend to take place in that universe, there are mods (A decent amount) that add vessels, like the above ship from Blue Planet, there is also inferno, which is in the process of being remade, it added a megaton amount of ships into the game, the anime themed Wings Of Dawn which is a total conversion, Shadow genesis which is a fantastic mod, another thing about mods is that a decent amount of them tend to use ships created by the community as most mods (Though I've yet to see one do this) don't hoard assets for themselves.

That ship is awesome. I stand corrected, there are amazing, worthwhile ships in that game after all. Somtimes I think publishers should release the games 'pre-moded' so they are way more awesome ;)

The community has done a lot in the past few years, mods like blue planet, shadow genesis, wings of dawn, stand alones like the wing commander saga, Diaspora, the Inferno release, and a bunch of others have put out some amazing content for the game. The SCP is running strong as ever, adding new features to the game and what not, and the Freespace Upgrade project which has been steadily upgrading the visuals of the game has the game looking close to modern. But as for the second bit, after all mods are made by the community, what fun would it be if the publishers did all the work for us

Sadly all of the gamefront links are broke so we lose the pirates and those that aren't in mediafire links. Human revolution only has one of the shipsets but it's one with a mediafire link does anyone happen to have the pirates? It's not hard to save the 2 pirate images that are on preview but where do you put them so that pirates use them?

I have them, and I also made some extra ships and bases to create a full faction set. But I'm not very good with image editing and wasn't satisfied with the set so I never released it back then. And it is also Kalthaniell's and other peoples work mostly.

But I'll upload it here so people can get the ships (the original Pirate ships are in there + extras)
