Vs the AI turn 100.

Post by JocMeister »

I just reached 43 in my current campaign against the AI and I have some "issues" to share.

First of all the german AI has been quite good up until early 42. I play on 125/90 advantage for the AI and it achieved very close to the historical boundries in 41. I limited myself during the blizzard to give the AI a hand in 42.

Unfortunantly the AI couldn´t project power to smash through my lines in 42 so everything turned to trench warfare where I actually had to give some ground here and there. But now in may 43 I have over 8,5 million soldiers so I guess this game is pretty much over. But 41 was alot of fun and I only held Leningrad by a thread!

Some issues though:

The AI destroy all its bomberforce by doing fruitless airfield attacks. Sometimes loosing over a hundred bombers for just a few soviet AC destroyed. By turn 100 the germans have lost around 5000 bombers with very little to show for it.

Something is seriously wrong with casualties. I see the same thing others have reported. Battle after battle where the result makes aboslutly NO sence at all. German attacks with a 10:1 advantage in everything but suffering 5 times the casulties or more. If 140.000 germans attack 10.000 russians in open terrain behind level 2 forts the result shouldn´t be 5000 killed germans and 800 russians. Period.

Again on the airwar: Its just way way to abstracted. I micromanage alot and like it but I can´t really be bothered with the airwar. Its a shame because it was a major part of the conflict and SHOULD be just as good as the rest of the game!

Battlereports. Please, please make it alot more detalied then it now. I don´t want to spend 2 hours per turn just staring at the screen when the battles play out and taking notes on losses myself on a piece of paper! Just give us the details through clickable text through the F11 view! Just seeing losses in MEN, ART and AFVs in not enough in a game like this. I should not have to make notes of this and watch all the battles play out in detail. Its extremly timeconsuming. Looking at the losses screen does not tell my WHERE the Germans lost 60 of its precious Mk IIIs.

Now in 43 the AI gives up ground way, way to lightly. Even a hint of a breakthrough somewhere can make the AI retreat 5-8 hexes for no reason at all and leaving level 3-4 fortifications over a big part of the front.

I know this is versus the AI but still it had a big advantage 125/90. But it was way to easy for me to rail out all factories. I don´t think I lost a single factory so far. I have over 7 million armamentpoints in the pool and I have been very lavish in building tank armies and SUs...

I also found that the AI had huge problems with destroying the early pockets. Instead of atleast countaing them I was left more or less on my own to ravage the german rear areas. I guess the AI wasn´t updated when the changes on pockets where introduced.

But despite all this:

Its still an awsome game! :)

In the Commanders report

There is a tab called Battles or something

Here you can see the battles for the turn/previous turn in some detail

It's quite helpful

Using this you can just let the AI battles run and analyse them on your turn at your leisure.

I know. But I still can´t see what was actually destroyed. 42 AFVs doesn´t really tell you much. Could be PzI or Tigers. In a recent battle I smoked 62 PzIII south of Stalino during a battle. A big event but if I hadn´t looked at the battle at a high message level I would have missed it. This forces me to spend sometimes hours looking at battles instead of just a few minutes reading about it. During a whole 41 campaign this could spare me and others days. The data is there and I wish they could just incorparate it in the F11 view.

Hello

I see this Problem too, But this happens when the ai send the attcks without escort which he too often do.

Maybe a routine would help which checks if the bombers are underway without escort and give the bombers a (high) chance (which depends on a leader roll) to turn back home without bombing.

This will likely not dissolve the problem but maybe reduce it.
