I have played the vast majority of my games as Soviets with SOW. They don't get the Bound command or very much smoke. When I do play as Germans I forget that it even exists. I use Engage>Move and Advance and rarely Rush or Defend>Move.

Reading some of the posts where players are having mixed results with Bound got me thinking about when and how to use this command.

Another feature of playing Soviets is plenty of troops. I can at times use a quasi bound by moving a platoon forward while having a platoon in overwatch. When the forward platoon makes contact and gets suppressed or pinned, I leave them to rally and move the overwatch platoon forward. I still take losses but eventually get some squads to maintain LOS long enough to get a good target on the enemy.

Of course some enemy artillery can make a mess of my plan but such is war.

What are your experiences and thoughts?

I've been playing as the Germans and I've been using the Bound feature quite a bit. I'm kind of thinking about not using it as much because the lead squad or tank can get too far ahead of the rest of the platoon. If your HQ unit is the one in the lead and gets hit hard it affects what the rest of your platoon can do. For example if your HQ is the one leading and comes under heavy fire and withdraws, every unit in the platoon withdraws, some may not even be able to see the target but is still withdrawing.

I'm starting to use Advance more and playing around with the SOP. That may be a better combination.

Since I too play mostly Soviets I forget about the bound command until I have it used on me. Then it's not hard to remember it.

Good Hunting.

I very much like the bound command. It has to be modified though to make smaller distances between changes. Is there an xml parameter somewhere to set that?

In the first 1944 scenario as soviets I used the charge command with my soviet tanks. It seemed to work perfectly. After a while though I ran into problems when my tanks refused to take orders. Perhaps its somkind of ingame order delay? They just sat there for turns doing nothing. I tried all kinds of orders to get them moving. And during that I lost many tanks to enemy ATG that took them out one by one. I was a bit frustrated. I had managed to avoid losses but now I was taking hits just because these russians dont know how to move their tanks.

To play the Soviets is much harder than playing the Germans. There is a half phase and full phase delay for the Soviets depending on what you are doing/changing. You really need to get into the manual.

There is no reason for the tanks not to move unless they are stunned or you did not do your orders properly.

Are you playing with standard 40:40 or did you force 60:0?

Standard. I think I tried both move engange and advance. Before that I used charged for 2-3 turns. There were two platoons of tanks and both were full unbuttoned. After a while I got them to moving but it took like 3-4 turns I think. I didnt have the problem after that in the scenario even if I used charge so who knows what it was. Ill take better notes next time I run into it.

Somthing else happened in that game too. I scored hits on german ATG. After a while it looked like undamaged (the german AT men standing and manning it). But I couldnt target it! I had like 20 tanks not far from it. Then I just forgot about it and drove past it since it didnt do anything except stand there and I could not target it.

Did you load a save before this weirdness (tanks and ATG) started? If so do you still have the save?
