Annoying Pop-Up

Post by Chet Guiles »

There is an annoying popup that happens in the main screen when you mouse ocver a hex. It is a semi-transparent info screen, but because it is semi transparent it is hard to read. You can adjust how long the game waits before it pops up, and how long it stays on the screen, but there is no way to turn the $%#@ thing off. When it pops up it covers such things as menu windows, etc, requiring you to stop what you are doing and start over, hoping the sucker doesn't have time to pop back up before you set your moves.

Is there:

a. A way to turn it off and on?
b. If it MUST be on, a way to make it opaque so you can actually read it while it is on screen?

I really like the nwe TOAW (I was a long time devotee of the original) but this feature is sort of a pain in the butt. Am I the only one who has had this issue -- or is there an easy fix that I am missing?

Thanks.

It will make things different (for sure) and make the pop-up go away entirely. I suggest that you copy and paste into a new font.ini and save your old one (first), eh?

Thanks! Is there any chance that you accidentally sent me the original ini file? What I have in my game (which I had not modified) is word for word (letter for letter, etc...) what you sent me. So it didn't change anything.

Wierd.

Thanks

To turn them off, in the options, on the second page, set tool tips show to 100000.

To change their opacity, in the fonts ini file you can change ToolTipAlpha. The higher it is the more opacity. Values can range from 0 (no opacity) to 255 (full opacity).

LOL! Wrong file! Meant to go with the Opart 3.ini but what Stefan has said should do it.

Oh well..............

What Stefan said did it. Thanks again. Nice to have a community of folks willing to help with "undocumented" features.

"Tool Tips" were documented in the What's New.pdf.

You are not alone.

I got rid of it fairly easily -- so easily I don't remember how. Disable .png graphics?

Now, if I could just kill the target circles...

In the Opart 3.ini..........
AllCropCircles=N
OneCropCircle=Y

Change them to N in each case.

It's in the options that can be accessed from the start screen. Not in the "in-game" options.

Thanks for your help. I was looking under the options on the menu bar at the top of the screen, rather than the options button in the body of the screen.

First time poster here. Looks like that annoying pop-up has been bothering others as well. I started encountering this issue after I installed the latest patch. (I started out as v3.0.0.17 then patched to v3.4.0.202) I think this hex info popup is redundant as the same info is also shown on the bottom of the main map screen. Yeah ... there is no popup toggle option available while in the game or editor modes.

That pop-up box ..... I read the 'What's New' documentation. I opened the file (I am away from my computer so I cannot spell out the actual file name right now, but it is an .INI file ... Opart3font.ini?) that sets TOAW fonts. I tweaked two of its parameters (they are located towards the bottom). I am still messing around with them. So far, I was able to make it disappear faster than its default, thereby making it less annoying.

To turn off the Tool Tips set "Tool Tip Show" and "Tool Tip Hide" as shown in the attached shot of the Advanced Rules Page 2. Then the Tool Tip will only appear if you leave the cursor still for 100 seconds, and even then will only stay on the screen for 1 second.

Also, to cancel the new "Skip the Movement Popup" feature, set "Menu Show Delay" to 1, as shown.

Finally, to revert to the .bmp graphics from the new .png graphics, set "Support PNG Graphics" to Off, as shown.

The attached shot shows the control panel with the Unit Icon button circled. That button cycles through four views:

1. Units visible
2. Units and current-unit crop-circle visible
3. Units and all unit's crop-circles visible
4. No units or crop-circles visible.

Left-clicking cycles forward and right-clicking cycles backward.
