According to several sources, including the Telegraph, the SAS apparently can't get new recruits as all the potential ones are just too busy conducting "interesting" operations against the Taliban to train for the selection tests to join the unit that would be doing the "interesting" operations against the Taliban instead if there were more of them. Er, what??

Can't they just take in those who have experience doing interesting stuff against the Taliban to do more interseting stuff against the Taliban.  Which means changing the entry criteria from training to experience.

The spelling of that word has been a nemesis of mine my entire life.

It’s a dire state of affairs when our soldiers are too busy fighting the Taliban to prep for SAS selection. I’d be interested to know whether our other SF units have the same problem. Especially those with the Royal Marines: the SBS and 30 Commando. I suspect that they all have similar problems.

It is rumoured that we have more special forces personnel in Libya than the French though. But the French are said to have more in Misrata: five FACs to our one.
