Hi all,

Turn 215. July 26 1945.

The front in the North turn 215. The withdrawal continues. Note the extensive fortification lines. I have plenty of AP and over 600k men in the manpower pool. If there are no rifles, they get spades instead .

Now this made me laugh...

In any case, and just as I predicted long long time ago, the Soviets will not reach Berlin!

This is just absurd, but I suppose this game, with its succession of patches might not be representative. Still does that mean you could build even more FZs? you could fall back on an endless carpet of forts....

I don't think it is the patches. I think the balance of losses and production on the German side needs to be adjusted. This is a very complex area though. The combat model and the amount of losses inflicted needs to be balanced against production of various items and manpower available, and this is a very delicate balance. In a campaign stretching 4 year, it is not surprising that small deviations add up and and the end result in 1945 is skewed. I also suspect that after May 1945, production schedules are not really realistic. Not to mention that the Western Allies are probably having a victory parade in Berlin right now.

Did you disband Artillery units? I would keep doing that, see if it helps.

What did you do with all the "Shell" divisions you got in 1945, that basically sprang out of the Fuhrer's mind?

I am thinking of Panzer Division Tatra and friends, plus all the static ones.

The Reich really went nuts with Division creation those last couple months of the real war......

I thought ther Shatten divisions were pure genius. So many German units were running back with no weapons or equipment. the purpose of the Shatten divisions was to build up the TOE equipment of a division and then hand it off to a division that had lost everything. sort of a mobile depot to rebuild divisions. for personnel at that stage the replacements went straight to army group. the shatten units werent, nor were they ever intended to be combat formations.

Good work as the German, im playing Sveint at around turn 160 i think and he has just wiped out the red armies main striking force and is advancing towards moscow =(

Bu on the rest of the front withdrawals have denied the Soviets deliberate atacks, which keeps losses down. This shot is showing losses during the preceding Soviet turn. I don't like losing 45 Panthers a turn, but manpower losses are not too bad.

A map of the entire front after Axis moves Turn 218. An advantage with fighting in 1945 is that I only have to paste together 2 screenshots instead of 3 or 4 to make a map of the entire front.

And if I understand things correctly (a big if admittedly), replacements reaching the front actually outnumber the losses this turn! A rare occurence these days for the Germans!

The reason is that the Soviets are coming up on the Vistula, and apparently couldn't launch any deliberate attcks this turn, except one in the north.

And that one was bloodily repulsed with the help of an SS-division in reserve. Intense Soviet preliminary air bombardments were savaged by Me 262:s, and only served to inflate the scores of Luftwaffe aces.

Air recon reveals the true mass of Soviet forces in the North! A massive brown sludge welling up against the thinly manned ramparts of the Reich!

Apparently, the North is the area of concentration for the Reds. As can be seen, Bolshevik forces are far thinner in the South.

North is the only realistic way for the Soviets... the Berlin is the goal...

True enough, but straight west from Warsaw is the shortest route to Berlin, and it also avoids the Vistula.

Just hang in there Tarhunnas, I still think you've got this in the bag. (Actually, you have already won or at least got a draw for those of us skeptical about this whole post May business.)

Not many turns left now.

What is your VP count?

You need 40 right for minor win?

Gids has done a good job pounding away from far to the east.

Turn 221. September 6 1945.

The retreat continues in Poland, with maximum use being made of rivers and fortifications. Losses are kept to 29.000 men this turn, while Soviet losses are twice that. In Hungary, the front has more or less collapsed, but that is far from Berlin and lots of mountains in between, so what happens there is largely irrelevant. The map is after German moves. Note that I take every opportunity to convert hexes back in the no-mans-land, as every extra MP spent by the Soviets might mean one less deliberate attack.

I think this is going to be close. Only 8 turns left, but my army is falling apart. This will be a real nail-biter.

I should also mention that my opponent reports that his command structure has been hard hit by the 1.05.59 patch. That might have effected his combat efficiency this turn.

I can imagine it would be. Of all the changes implemented in the latest beta the lower CP's for Soviet HQ's is the one that has the biggest effect on mid-late war existing GC's. At least you're both near the end (well past historical of course = a clear victory for you in my mind)!

Turn 222. Septeber 13 1945.

Stenier is in Hungary, but IISS Panzer Corps under Keppler is still strong enough to punish an unwary Soviet Tank Corps. Not that the loss ratio was worth it, but it felt good.

I don't really like this about the combat system. A successful counterattack like this with 4-1 superiority ought to inflict much heavier casualties on the Soviets IMHO.

Those units actually have a CV of 1? I hope not.

But agree, a result like that should have seen 4-1 casualty ratio instead of a 1-1. But it has been said before by others that is the casualties you will see come 1943. It hurts the German almost as bad as the Russian so counter attacks are self defeating.
