Attempting to follow useful instructions to re-install the game. That works fine. Then I try to apply the 1.04 patch and get an 'invalid serial number' result.

Has anyone else successfully got 1.03 and 1.04 running side by side? If so, please let me know how you did it.

I have not done it for 1.04, but before if you put them in seperate folders under "Matrix" in root there were never any problems.

e.g. "Gary Grigsby's War in the East" with a full install and the original version

AND

"WitE2" with a full install and the new patch version

I take it the CV of 1 in a mud turn is the "true" value after weather modifications? Is there any way to see the unmodified value?

Correct, and no.

Hmmm... in mud and blizzards it's now hard to tell the relative attack values of my own units, much less the enemy's. 90% of my units are "1's" including powerful divisions, weak allied units and brigades. I suggest adding a third toggle to the "z" hotkey that displays the unmodified CV values.

Just before installing the 1.04.10 patch I renamed "WarinTheEast.exe" to "WarInTheEast 1.03.exe". Then installed the patch and voila, I have 1.03 and 1.04 running out of the same directory. I just set up a shortcut to the old version and I can run either of them.

I would have thought a patch modifies more than the exe. That is why people create another folder for a different patch version.

Yes, there were data changes to 1.04, so having two exes in the same folder may cause issues if you start a new game with the 1.03 exe because you'll be using 1.04 data files. On the other hand, you can keep playing existing 1.03 games while starting any new games with 1.04.

In my case I also used two folders inside the Matrix Games folder so that might be needed to avoid registration issues.

Good way to end up with data and/or save game corruption issues.

Update: all working fine now; two directories required, plus attention while installing new patch :)

I believe you won't have any problems as long as you don't start any new games with the old executable. AFAIK, the data files are read when the game is first started then reside in the save game files thereafter. If I'm wrong, it would be good to get a confirmation.

Yes, once the game is started, the data files are no longer needed as everything is in the save.

There's been a lot of talk about the supermen of the summer and winter. There are clearly changes to humanise the Russian winter warriors but is there anything to downgrade the Germans in summer? Unless I've missed something, it looks like the reduction in fortifying abilities- which will first hit the Russians- will only make them stronger.

Mehring, supposedly movement attrition changes will hurt the Germans during 1941, but not sure how they are implemented. Anything else?

For the life of me I have a hell of a time logging into the Members area. I manage eventually but at the moment I had to submit a request to the help desk. User name/ pw. How simple is that yet it will not accept. Am I the only one having this problem?

No, you're not. Each time I go there to download something, I have to think anew - now what was all this about? Then, after some clicking around, the penny drops. It's not user friendly.

Beta looks good, anyway. Funny how the reports in the "combat window" suddenly appears more clear, despite the fact that the system got more intricate.

That looks interesting. I'll have to figure out the dual installation thing.
