I just got a new laptop. I logged into the members section but can only find links for updates, not the actual games, to Distant Worlds and Storm over the Pacific, both of which were purchased through Digital River in 2010. I'm listed as registered to both games.

I'm stuck. Can anyone help? Now I really wished I would have paid attention to people here saying to burn the games to disc.

That is why I buy the physical disc. All this DRM, keep a copy here, activate there, write that # down, and on and on. I getting to old for keeping track of stuff. Hmmmm, maybe I have to much stuff. Well the economy is going to take care of that problem.

Ok, I got my desktop up and running and copied the SOP folder to a DVD and got the folder copied to my laptop. I have the Storm over the Pacific folder on the laptops HD but how do I install it? When I open the folder all I see are all the sub folders and misc files.

Despite the blurb, I think you'll find that the instructions for re-downloading DR purchases (see 'Support') will still work regardless of whether you paid for the 'download insurance'. If not, it does say

quote:

Please note that you can always contact our Help Desk and we will do the best we can to make your download available to you even if it is not normally available from Digital River, though we may not be able to help in all cases.

I sent them an email from their help desk. I found a link for Distant Worlds that worked but the link for Storm over the Pacific gave me a message saying Prinus(I forget the spelling) no longer supports downloads for this product. I'm hoping they answer me Monday.

Similiar problem here.I preferred Digital River.Would rather pay the extra $3-5 and be able to download anytime instead of Plimus's  "wait untill our office is open and we will look up your order, when we get around to it".

You mentioned you bought from digital river in 2010.
That means you must use www.findmyorder.com to redownload.
You shouldn't use Plimus.

I did Jomni. That was the link that directed me to the Distant Worlds download link after I submitted the order number for SOP 3 times. I made sure it was the correct number and order date all three times.

There is no reason in the world why someone should waste $10 buying a physical copy for a game on a cd when the cd itself costs well under a dollar.
If you buy the digital download version of the game just get a USB flash drive and put your games on them. I purchased a 64 GB stick and I have every matrix games I have purchased on it. I keep it on my key ring with me. If my computer drives ever die on me or my house catches fire or floods, then I have most of my critical files on my stick.
For even more added backup I also copy everything over to an external HDD too.

Ok I got my desktop running and burnt the game to a DVD. I have the SOP folder in my laptop. How do I install it? When I hit open or run it just opens up to all the misc files inside.

I did that.Purchased WitE on release(2010) and the only thing that shows when I "find my order" is everything I bought except WitE.Plimus should have unlimited downloads why should I have to wait 5 business days?

On my main PC I do regular backups as another safety action. I have burned my downloaded games to disks-all of them that I could-and those downloaded installers work. I have used those on multiple occasions.

I looked up programs under the start menu, found the SOP directory, right clicked to use the "send to dvd drive" option. After that I put the dvd in my laptop and copied the folder to my laptop.

I'm gonna be straight up with what I am thinking as I write this. With Steam I just clicked on whatever games I had in my directory and it started downloading and installing with no hassle.

I'm hoping that Plinus answers my email from their support desk.

I miss the times when one could just copy the game directory and expect it to work. Nowadays lots of games stop working if one has to delete and reinstall Windows because some problems.
I'm having trouble with Wine (I can't install the .Net framework). The main solution for this is deleting Wine directory and installing it again. I can't do it because I won't be able to run half of my games and some of them have several mods installed so reinstalling them would be a lot of work.

Perturabo,

My process is to download the game, install it. (some games put a serial number file in the game directory). Once I have it installed. I then burn the file I downloaded to a CD or DVD along with a text file with the serial number info. I also write the serial number on the DVD.

this way I have a backup in case it's needed (and it usually is at some point).

Thanks
rick

It was a reply to the post above me where two people have apparently backed up the game directory instead of installers.

From findmyorder " I want to re-download my purchase, but the Download button is gone.
There are a couple reasons why you wouldn't see a button (where there previously was one) to download your purchase. If the order is older than 30 days , then the download period has expired"It doesnt work.

I still cannot find a link to download that game. I'm still waiting for an answer from their help desk. It's only 30 bucks so it's not a big loss, just irritating.

This is the exact same situation with me. I ordered and downloaded on December 29th, 2010. Plimus sent me a ticket number over the weekend for my help request and have not contacted me since.

At this point and time I will not buy anything more from Plimus unless I see some results. Correct me if I'm wrong but was unlimited downloads part of the deal with Plimus?
