Gents -

My understanding is that an AD or AS must have enough supply on-board to equal or exceed the Load Cost of their respective torpedoes in order to rearm the applicable vessel. Am I correct in this line of thought?

Does this also apply to AGP's when rearming PT Boat torpedoes?

Wanted to make sure I am on the right track.

Thanks to you all for your help!

Mac

Yes. For all tenders and ammo ships, two conditions must be met.

The Capacity (actually bulk cargo capacity) of the ship must equal or exceed the rearm load cost of the weapon to be rearmed. This is to keep a 500 ton mini-ammo ship from rearming the main batteries of a battleship.

The supply on hand must be sufficient to pay the rearm cost of the weapon, and will be decremented as expended. This is simply issuing the ammo from supply on board.

Never mind, found it in manual. One question though, how can small capacity AGP (<1200 cargo) ever rearm a MTB? Or does an AGP ignore the rule?

Naval guns rearm at a cost of 2x the effect. Other weapons, like torps and DCs and bears, oh my, rearm at a cost of their Load Cost. In stock, a 21in Mk 8 (your basic PT torp) loads at 932. Bit of a hitch occurs later war when PTs can upgrade to the 22.4in Mk 13 which loads at 1200.

Mac,

The converted Dutch Med. Gouv. Mar. AGPs have enough bulk capacity (840) to reload torpedoes on Dutch (774) and British (776) MTBs. They cannot reload torps on US PTs (932).

Do AD's AS's and AGP's actually help with repairs? I've never really noticed a difference in repairs when I have or don't have those ships.

Yes, but only of the appropriate type of ship. It is most useful when there are no other significant source of repair ability - like an AS in a small port.

Blackhorse -

I am most appreciative of your clarification.

Thank You, Sir!

freeboy -

From the Manual, Pg. 276:

AE Ammunition Ship:
A ship specially equipped to carry ammunition
and to rearm other ships while underway.
Underway rearming is only available late in
the war – until then AEs function as AKE.

Also, on Pg. 277:

AKE Ammunition transport:
A ship specifically adapted to carry ammunition but not
to perform underway rearming. Can rearm other ships
when in both ships are anchored at the same location.
Can also transfer cargo to Ammunition Ships (AE).

freeboy, I don't believe that an AE has any effect on the port level; but does allow the re munitioning of warships (drawing on it's supply loaded as cargo) as Don explained above.

Gents - if I am off track, please correct me.

Mac

Yah I was way off, odd how these misconception of ae and ake held on for so long.. and forgive my lack of reading and refering to the manual, its just so much changes that the manual often is the Second source after teh grogs here.. seems like you are up to speed Madmac! bravo
