OT - Internet Explorer 9

Post by Alfred »

OK, I know many of you wouldn't be seen dead with IE9 but for those of us who don't mind running IE8 and have no intention of changing to any of the rival browsers, what are your views on the recently released IE9. Is it worthwhile replacing it with the recently released IE9? Any significant issues with the new Internet Explorer?

It's working fine and seems to have good security. (I teach security.)

I use Chrome and intend to keep doing so. However, yesterday the Security Now podcast (from TWIT) did an episode on IE9. If you are an IE user drop everything and update to IE9 right now. It is much more secure, much faster, and - make sure you are sitting down - is far and away the most adherent to open standards of any browser out there at the moment. Yes, it's from Microsoft and it is currently number one for adhering to open standards. There are plenty of feature improvements too, some of which also act to improve security.

Here is the link to the podcast: http://www.twit.tv/sn293

On that page they also have a link to the show notes, and will have a transcript (linked via the show notes page, usually within a week or so, counting from Tuesday).

Not sure if this is a direct result of upgrading to IE9. I'm on DSL and one of the things I noted is a far faster download speed with Windows Live. Before upgrading to IE9, save files took 15-18 seconds to download. Now they take about 1-2 seconds. No change in upload speed though.

So far much more stable with autorecovery also much better IMO.

Thank you gentlemen.

Have installed IE9. Now just need to get used to the new interface. What are the odds that the AE forum gets pinned to my task bar?[:)]
