Research: Research can be split up into 3 different types. Strategic, Diplomatic and Tactical. Lets start out with tactical research. Each country generates automatically an amount of research points. These are determined by what location types you own. A major capitol will give you 100 research points, a capitol 50 research points and a research center 25 research points. Some quick examples. Japan owns 2 capitols. Beijing and Tokyo. Both these count as 50 research points. So each turn the japanese generate 100 research points. The United States owns 1 major capitol (Washington DC) and 2 research centers (Boston and Los Alamos) That is 100 for the major capitol, 25 for each research center, bringing it to a total of 150 research each turn. China owns no major capitol, capitol or research center, and gets therefore 0 research points each turn. Each country is able to build research centers. They cost 200 EPs and 500 PPs. So it is quite expensive, but those are the same prices as in WaW for ATG... Tactical research requires certain amounts of research points to develope. Most basic stuff, costs 700 Research points, and upwards, when it gets more advanced. Some costs 500. Each country starts out with different tactical research levels... Diplomatic research, are the coups. A coup functions like this. It costs about half of what a take over of the same country would cost if taken over by action card, but there are risks. There is a 25% chance of success, and the country will be yours after the ending of your turn. There is also a 10% chance of failure, and the country will befall one of your enemies. (Predetermined which). Some countries can only be taken over by coups. Switzerland is a good example of this. Only Germany and Italy can take it over, and only by coup. However, if the coup fails horribly, then France takes over Switzerland. Strategic research are the ones that give bonuses over a longer periode of time. Here are a few of them: Radar (better recon), Espionage (chances to get full recon of enemy countries), Better training (your troops get a max of 25 free xp, instead of the usual 10, without fighting). Occupation tech (You get 80% production from conquered countries, instead of 50%), Coalition (Foreign troops fight for you at 100% efficiency, instead of 80% efficiency). ... The more interesting ones are perhaps the own people production researches. These allow your population to produce at better levels. They are 80%, 100%, 125% and 150% researches. Each country starts out with a different level of these researches already researched. So some countries already produce at high efficiency, while others donīt. Germany, Great Britain and United States start out with 100% own people production. Italy, Soviet Union and France start out with 80% own people production research, and China starts out with 50% own people research. (they havenīt learned nay people production researches). Strategic Research and Diplomatic researches both use ordinary PPs. Factories are always of the building engineers people type. And the amount of PPs that is used on production researches is variable. The more production you have, the more it costs. Chemical Factories and Research centers are the exception. They have factory people type, and are not increased in efficiency by any research.
