I have an early WITP (non Admiral edition). My prospective opponent has no copy. Is my early version compatable to play a PBEM game if opponent buys the Admiral edition?

If not, either we both have to buy an Admiral's edition (irritates me a I never used my purchase) or seek to buy another pre-Admiral edition through Matrix or used through internet resellers.

Does Matrix have a pre Admiral edition in 'warehouse' I can purchase?

Thanks

No it is not possible to mix WITP and WITP:AE so you both have to get the same version.

It seems the store still offers WITP but i would advise that both of you get AE. First it is worth it no doubt PBEM or vs AI does not matter, and second it has a much better to handle UI. It grew more complex but even for beginners it is easier to handle (but still quite complex) and third it supports more than 1024x768.

The save file format is very different between WitP and AE.

I have no involvement with the sales side of matrix other than as a customer, but all their games are available for digital download.  So you can have the game on your harddrive within a few minutes of purchase (depending on the speed of your internet connection).  Getting it on CD takes a little longer of course, but you can burn your own CD if you want to make sure you have a back up copy in case your computer dies.

Thanks. Will not attempt to mix or match, or acquire a 2nd old version. At this point we either both buy War in the East, or War in the Pacific-AE. It is sad that years ago I purchased both Uncommon Valor and War in the Pacific and never played either one (was strictly Macintosh in that era). Was sold by Gary Grigsby's name as have been playing his games on Apple IIe since 1982 (oddlymy Apple IIe still works and I still have the games although unused). I still think high the simplicity and challenge of Bomb Alley, Guadacanal Campaign, USAAF, War in Russia, War in teh South Pacific.........

A number of people have gotten AE to work with the options to run Windows with the Mac

The non-Admiral's Edition version of War in the Pacific (subtitled Struggle Against Japan) is freely available from Matrix's store. Either your friend buys that one or you both buy AE.
