I was wondering if Close Combat's Wacht am Rhein supported widescreen monitors? I want the game to fill up my whole screen with no black bars on the edges. I have a 22' monitor with 1680x1050 resolution. What is the highest resolution in the game? Thanks.

Yep, for an older game, widescreen looks great and everything stays in proportion. You can set the resolution with in-game options.

Thanks. I heard that there was no scrolling and a page jumping problem in Close Combat games? What does this mean?

I haven't seen anything like what you describe in Matrix WAR, which is the only CC Game I own.

I believe in the original Atomic games on faster computers and video cards there was problems like that but not on the Matrix releases....

Oh... you're going back to games released over 10 years ago.

No problem with these recent releases.

I don't understand why on my computer Maps from the old CCIV in WAR jump to what looks like 800X600 but the new maps look great when playing at 1280X1024.

How do I get rid of that?

Either the X or Y resolution of the map is lower than your screen which use to cause CC to crash, but with the Matrix re-releases the game resolution is lowered instead.

IF you do not want it to change resolution on those smaller maps you must run your default game resolution lower.

So how do you guys rate Wacht am Rhein up to CC Longest Day? I just bought the CC Longest Day and like it so far but the night combat is troublesome to say the least. Also, its hard to see my men and equipment on some of the battle maps since there is no zoom feature apparently. Is there any differences in Wacht am Rhein overall?

Have you tried "Outlining" your men?

Using the outline option can definitely help. You can also toggle on and off trees.

If your men/tanks are too hard/small to see you can run the game at a lower resolution making everything bigger when in battle

Thats the problem my resolution is pretty high. Might try turning it down. I visited the mods page and there is a mod for small soldiers with three different sizes? What does this do? I assume it makes soldiers even smaller?

Yes, those 3 soldier mods all make the soldiers smaller.

CC maps are coded at 5 approx. pixels per meter, vehicles at approx. 8 (some mods have used 10) per meter and soldier at approx. 12 pixels per meter thus with the soldier mods are soldiers made closer to the vehicle size.

Tejszd is right... you screen is bigger than the map itself.

3 choices on how to handle that.

1. Crash as in CC5
2. Leave a black border.
3. Expand the map by lowering resolution (the chosen handler)

WAR has new larger maps. Classic CC4 uses the original maps and would not be Classic CC4 with new maps....

But WAR uses a few of those classic CCIV maps, those are the ones giving me problems.
New monitor?
I hope not,I really like this 24" widescreen.

That is right, some of the old maps were reused.

I do believe they were enlarged to avoid the instant fire fights you got sometimes in CC4 but still maybe not high enough as your 24" probably is 1920 by either 1200 or 1080.

Your #4 is an option though but due to Andrew's point of ever increasing resolution and for map variety it probably won't happen. But having said that I don't know for sure, wonder how many maps would have to be enlarged to make them all 1920 x 1200 or larger???

Maybe one of the map / mod makers can expand them and let them be offered for download? Is Ernie_M still around who updated a bunch of the original CC4 maps? Are his updated maps larger, as they could be put in to WAR the same way they were for CC4?

I also gotta agree with playing CC on a 24" screen is great and I wouldn't give mine up either. At least the new CC re-releases don't crash like the old games when there is a map smaller then your screen resolution.

I was thing more along the lines of an original CCIV map to replace the ones I don't like now.

Yes it may create some nasty "It's Not Historical" conversations but so what.
I don't believe any of the original CCIV maps used in WAR were edited other than the Trees and maybe some elevations.

For sure some were.... Checkout Champs, Stavelot, StVith, Vielsalm and Wardin in Classic CC4 versus WAR. Not as many though as I thought but they were enlarged....
