Hi,

Ive had a problem since my initial installation whereby the game screen is slightly larger than the display. How can I reduce it to fit? My screen resolution is 1440*900.

Thanks,

Are you using any switches? If so please post here.

On the game short cut, if you look at the properties, you can add things to the end of the command string to start the game.  These are called switches and they can be used to deal with various things.  One switch turns on an alternate font.  Some others are used to get around problems with some multi core processors (the game runs very slow on some multi core processors).  There are also some switches that adjust screen resolution.  These last switches were added with the 2nd or 3rd patch.

The minimum resolution is 1024X768.  You can make it higher than that if you want.

If you are using full screen and the image is running off the edge of your screen, it's possible that your monitor needs adjusting.  Without any switches, the game will switch the video card to 1024X768 at start and if your monitor is not correctly adjusted for that resolution, the image might go off the viewable area.  There are buttons on all monitors to adjust the image size and position.

Bill

Thanks Bill.

Any idea which manual the switch formats and options are described in?

Look in the release notes/readme which come with the download.

EDIT: Corrected false information.

There were some switches in the initial release and I believe they are documented in the main manual, but none of them would help you here.

I would recommend adjusting your monitor settings first.  If you don't know about the command line switches, then you are probably using full screen and it sounds like your monitor settings are off.

Open up the properties of the game's quick start shortcut.

It should look something like the picture.

If the 'Traget' shows something like
"C:\Matrix Games\War In The Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f
change the -f to -w
or if no -f, then add the -w

This will run the game in a window, rather full screen.

Taken from the release doc

-SingleCpuStart : Starts the game in single CPU mode. Switches to multi CPU mode if available later. We’ve found this to be useful on some multi-core systems, especially AMD processors.
-SingleCpuOrders : Starts the game in single CPU mode and stays in single CPU for the orders phase, switches to multi CPU mode for running the turn, then switches back to single mode for the next orders phase. We’ve found this to be useful on some multi-core systems, especially AMD processors. Use this or –SingleCpuStart, not both.
If either of the above are used with one of the -cpu# switches noted below, it will use the specified CPU, otherwise both of these switches default to the first CPU. If a -cpu# switch and one of these -Single switches are used, the turns will always be processed in multi processor mode.
-cpu# : (cpu1, cpu2, cpu3, cpu4) Switches set the cpu affinity for multi cpu systems. It will do nothing for single cores and will default to using all cores if a core is designated which is not there (for example using -cpu3 on a dual core system). We’ve found this to be very useful on some multi-core systems, especially Intel processors.
If used alone, the -cpu# switches will keep the game running on the CPU specified all the time. If used with the -SingleCpuStart switch, it will only use that core when starting the game. If used with the -SingleCpuOrders switch, it will stay in single CPU mode for starting and the orders phase, but will run in multicore. If one of the SingleCpu switches is used without a -cpu# switch, it will default to cpu 1 when it is in single core.
-multiaudio : Invokes a fix that changes audio timing for multicore machines.
-dd_sw : Handles DirectDraw via Software. We’ve found this can make a huge difference on many systems as far as reducing interface lag and making button clicking in-game more responsive. On a few newer systems this can cause some visual glitches and slow combat animations though, so give it a try and remove it if it’s not ideal on your system.

Examples:
-f -px1920 –py1200 for a 1920x1200 monitor in full screen mode
-w –px1680 –py1050 for windowed mode, so that the window is within desktop

Other Switches
-colorBlind : Support for color blindness
-deepColor : Enables 32 bit color, intended for Full Screen mode
-altFont : Enables alternate in-game font (Lucida Sans Unicode)
-w : Windowed mode
-wd : Windowed mode, daily autosaves
-ww : Windowed mode, weekly autosaves
-fd : Full screen, daily autosaves
-fw : Full screen, weekly autosaves
-r : Show Roads
-autosave : Daily autosave
-archive : Put data reports in archive directory
-skipVideo : Skip the intro video when starting the game
-fixedArt : Will not use rotating images

Thanks for all the help guys. Still trying to get this working. My screen size is 1440 by 900. The switchs im using are:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -f -px1440 –py900

Does that look right?

Id rather not keep changing the monitors settings if I can avoid it.

Mike

No, you are using the autorun and you need to use the game exe instead. It should look like this:

"C:\Matrix Games\War In The Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1440 -py900

needs to be changed to

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1440 –py900

It probably still won't work because the px/py switches can't be lower than 1024 as far as I know. But I am not sure about this so it might be worth a try. You might also try the same with the -w switch (windowed).

Thanks Nomad for the clarification.
So that means the OP could/should be able to use at least that resolution.

Nego, in case it has not been mentioned before: you must make sure your screen and the graphics card both support the resolution you are trying to achieve.

EDIT: There must be other players with that somewhat unusual resolution (laptop?). So please advice if you are familiar with that screen size ...

Good. So we now know how to fix that.
Wished fixes like that would be in a sticky thread. Or better two: one for switches in general and one for resolutions.
Anyway, case closed

Guys, what am I doing wrong? I had to reload, I had this working before, when I use "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1920 –py1080 & load a game I still get @ 2 inches of dark to each side once the game loads. That's the screen resolution. I've been dinking with this for hours. Any suggestions?

<edit>
NM, I changed it to "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -f -px1600 -py900, it's going now

Hi Lecivius,

If you look very carefully at your quote above, you will see the dashes (-) in front of the px1920 and py1080 are different lengths and are actually different characters. Retype the line with the minus (-) key on your keyboard and it should work.

Edit: (That's why it worked when you retyped it with the 1600x900 resolution).

We really must fix that Readme.pdf file that everyone is cutting and pasting from.....
