I know that a unit suffers a penalty when diggin' in. The question is that if I stick a non-diggin' in unit in a stack with other units that are all ready dug in and click dig in "Entire Group", does the group get penalized even though they are already dug in?

One would hope not, but I was just wondering how good the coding was.

Thank you,
Mark

If you order a stack to dig in or (D, E, F) it will impact the entire stack whether or not they are already dug in or digged in or dugged in. But if some of the units are say, entrenched, it will make it easier for another unit to dig in. But why would you tell a fortified unit to dig in anyway?

Units on "F" will not dig in further so they don't lose their remaining movement points.
If you want to use those to help digging in, switch them to T, L, or mobile and then click entrench.

Oops, just tested. No dig in order for already fortified units. So yeah, they won't lose mp since they can't dig in. But if you tell an entire stack to dig in and anyone can dig in further those units that are not fortified will lose their mp just as long as they can dig in to a higher level.

I hope that's perfectly clear.

Thank you gentlemen for your prompt assistance. I had units dug in and brought in a new unit. When I dug in the new unit, I selected group just to insure that I got everyone defending the objective to the best of their ability. My opponent attacked and won. He pointed out that digging in units suffer a defense penalty during the diggin in process. As some of the units were fortified, I was just wondering whether or not they suffered the penalty given that they could not dig in further.

Thank you,
Mark

A defense penalty for digging in? That would contradict the entire reason for digging in at all. You dig in because it is beneficial to do so. Is there some obscure bug that needs squashed?

I believe the "penalty" that Mark mentions is the loss of all MP's when digging in...

I think that I have to put my opponent on a drug and alcohol program as he was obviously high when he told me that there is a combat penalty during the digging in process. Next time, I will look through the rules first.

Either that, or have him come up with the details, eh? There is CERTAINLY a lot of ToaW code that people haven't seen yet (at least in terms of what it's doing)!

I'd be most interested in this if there was accually anything happening!

Waaay back in the days of TOAW I a unit that had zero MPs couldn't retreat - it evaporated instead. This made digging in dangerous for player one. Fixed in TOAW I a long time ago, though.
