Anyone know of any home cooked scenarios in the making? Or if any are available?
I really think, hands down this is the best operational/tactical wargame I have ever played. I have waited 30 years for a game like this. Ever since I opened my first copy of Squad Leader (I ended up owning 3 copies).
Funny, but back then my dad ruminated about a game like THIS being needed. He used to be a general's aide de camp and armored company commander in 1960s Germany. This is the ONLY wargame I have ever played which has caught his attention as being somewhat "realistic". Everything else is just a game he has said. And he is right. Since this, I don't play turn based WW2 operational or tactical anymore.
What's great about it is that he likes to come into the room when I was playing HTTR and I would be HIS Aide de Camp, giving units orders as he shouted them out.
Now, I have told him about the upgrades since HTTR (he is mostly excited about the assault time addition which he felt was sorely missing from HTTR) and when he visits me again, we plan on me being his Aide de Camp again, while he tries to save Bastogne from the Nazi onslaught.
By the way, I would really like to see bigger maps in some of the Bastogne scenarios. Why not provide a bigger map for the "Breakout at Bastogne" scenario? I am not a fan of edge effects of maps. And feel that by increasing the map size to the whole area around Bastogne, it would have been much more interesting. I notice that the map is not as big as some of the bigger ones. I tend to be a fan of the 300 sq km maps and 6 day scenarios. The 1-3 day scenarios on 60 sq km maps with their limited (relatively speaking) options have a hard time keeping my attention.
