I know that it's about five years too late to post a thread like this, but I just wanted to say that this isn't just one of the best Civil War games you can play, it's one of the best games you have play... period. Once you gain a good understanding of the leader initiative dynamic, the game is very rewarding and very challenging. My only complaint is that I didn't start playing this game years ago. I purchased it years ago, but I hardly have any time to sit down and learn a new game system (it really is a shame to have to work for a living!). So I only recently started to play this fantastic game. It seems to get everything just right. Even the frustration of having a commander refuse to move into combat, even though he should have initiative, is relatively historical and adds a little flavor to each turn.

So thanks for this great game. This and Battlefield Academy (which was a very nice surprise BTW) have been my "go to games" for a couple weeks now.

I also bought this game last month after playing AGEOD's American Civil War for three years and counting as well as Forge of Freedom. While I enjoy all of them, it appears that this game strikes the right balance for me. I especially like the way retreat paths and marching to the sound of the guns are handled.

Given my limited time available for gaming I appreciate the brisk pace the game moves at, and its relatively uncomplicated mechanics. The other two games are quite immersive but very time consuming.

That being said, buy all of 'em if you can to support the developers and the companies producing them. I think you will find them all uniquely interesting and good fun.

Hopefully I will find a pbem opponent here soon once I'm competent in the game's mechanics. The AGEOD forum is quite active and it's easy to find pbem partners there, but this forum seems rather quiet. But perhaps with all the hoopla over the 150th anniversary of the start of the war interest in the era, and the game, will increase.

Regards.
