I have $64 to spend on Christmas games. I'm pretty much down to a couple from here:

1. Distant Worlds & its expansion or

2. Battles from the Bulge

3. Battlefield Academy w/expansion

It is your task if you should decide to take it to tell me which game to get and why it is better than the other one.

I just can't decide. I'm interested in just about anything as far as type (ex: Sci-fi or War) so that qon't matter. Which game has the best replayability would be popular. I don't like monster complex games though like WitE or WitP types, just too much micromanagement there and too long of turns. Beer & pretzel to intermediate basically.

Go to each forum and investigate and see which one appeals to you.

I did and that didn't help too many other thoughts in the way. General discussion forum is so much better and calmer.

I'd say Battlefield Academy without a doubt. VERY fun game where you can begin playing in mere minutes. There is an easy edit you can do to one of the text files and be able to zoom the map all the way out.

I do enjoy DW, but it is a fairly deep game.

BotB- have not played it. I have CotAgean, and I hear there is not much of a change between Botb and it, save for the obvious.

So BA is my choice for you. Solid on release and I think you won't be disappointed.

Thank you Missouri the ticker now leans toward Battlefield Academy.

I'd vote for DW since it's so deep.

I liked BA but I didn't get into it as much as most people. I'm sure you'd enjoy it, though.

BA fit in nicely into my game collection considering the complexity of most titles. While the campaigns were quite entertaining, the server based multi-player was great. The one more turn feeling brought me the nostalgia I craved since the Combat Mission days.

TBH, I have not played in quite some time but definitely got my money's worth. I noticed they added an option to slow the action down which was good imo. Of all the Matrix games, I think BA would be the best title to have a couple scenario demo. Most of the more complex titles wouldn't fare too well with a demo imo because most people don't devote the time neccesary to learn the workings for a game unless they have purchased it.

But I do agree, DW is my first foray into 4x games and I do enjoy it, even considering game ending bugs I encounter.

Game Ending bugs? What do you mean game ending bugs?

BTW I got Battlefield Academy and it's expansion cause I got a $20 off coupon in my mail for BA and the expansion was 20% off as well so only $12 for it.

Soooo, I still have $33 that's enough for Distant Worlds right?

BA was one of my favourite games to come out of MG.  We'll, perhaps that was just before Slitherine crossed with MG, not 100% sure there. It may not be PERFECT, since you can exploit a few gamey-tactics here and there (as with many other titles), but it's an element of ASL crosses with PG. The fact that the on-line support is decent goes a long way too.
