I had a text message during a surface engagement I had never seen before. It came after a 16in shell penetrating hit by USS South Dakota.

"Haruna flooding its magazines."

I did not notice any more main battery fire from Haruna, but the secondary guns continued to fire.

Hmmm, never seen a sub being torpedoed by surface vessels! Oh the irony :-)

Yes, it will happen when a sub is driven to the surface. Rare though. Early in the war I had a couple of crippled subs caught on the surface by enemy surface forces and destroyed as well.

First time I saw this one, "xAK Hakunamatata maru explodes while unloading cargo".

The ship was in Amphib mode and just unloaded an NCB at an undisclosed location. She burned to the waterline and was scuttled. Looks like someone forgot that the smoking lamp was off. D'oh!

Mine (no pun intended) was the Minelayer that was lost to its own mines ..... I'm guessing the CO was so taken with his work that he was driving in a circle while continually looking thru the rearview mirror immensely proud of his work ........

I bet he wasn't paying attention and told his helmsman to be quiet because he was busy chewing a Boot Luey out because a sailor did not have his shirt tucked in!

I wonder if WitpAE is so detailed it has a scenario for stolen strawberries....

Or making keys out of impression molds and using them to raid ship stores...

I had an xAK with resources on it blow up in a simular fashon. It was docked at Ominato and did a couple of points of port damage also. I guess it had the right amounts of sulfer and potassium nitrate and some one decided to BBQ with Charcoal...

A special report I'd like to see:

A battalion of nurses disembark on the 1st Marine Divs. base at Lunga.

Cant find the AK Hakunamatata maru in tracker unfortunately, perhaps it's blown up already in my PBEM

I had one where apparently the sub's crew was so inexperienced that the destroyers surprised it on the surface, and put a torpedo into the sub. It was early in the war though.

Maybe it was a cosmic balance deal where it had to be traded across space and time with the Nimitz when it arrived to watch the event!

"Hakunamatata Maru"

The amphibious landing mishaps are entertaining.

Oh noes!

What does a 'severe reprimand' in the IJN entail exactly?

Actually he was forced to retrieve the com gear and repair it all... using hand signals until he did. He survived the war and became a secret designer for a little known company called Nintendo. Controllers you wave around sheesh.

I'm nearing the end of March now and I still get this same reassignment message each and every day with no other officers ever being reassingned.

I posted a question in the Technical forum asking if it might be a bug.

I've seen this one when picking up the American reinforcements at Bora Bora.

The port level is 0 and I use amphibious TFs to pick up there so I presume mishaps occur loading across the beach.
