Only watched about half of this one so far, and my girlfriend is not too thrilled, especially since she is suspicious on what is the deal with the Italian woman :P

Any thoughts... good or bad...

Were you looking for thoughts on the movie, Italian women or your girlfriend?

A bad ripoff of "Tobruk"

from IMDb:

"This movie is a mixture of the guns of Naverone and battle of the bulge as you have American tanks m41 walker bulldogs and m48 Patton as German Panzers ( all of which is footage lifted from Tobruk ) ... You have Burton exactly copying the actions of Peppard to fit the stock footage of Tobruk into the action scenes of this film. However this is what lets the film down as it doesn't use any new footage as far as battle scenes are concerned it is like watching Tobruk again but just with different actors ..."

Have not watched Tobuk, but have seen parts of it in the past. I'll make that on my list of future entertainment.

As for Raid on Rommel, I don't know. Watched most of it now and didn't quite get my fancy. In fact, my girlfriend REALLY didn't like it, and she actually doesn't mind most WWII films.

Special cheezy credits go to mixing in all the poor quality WWII footage into the movie, and some not too hot sound effects (men crying like babies, etc...)

I guess Burton's reputation wasn't hurt too bad, considering the time the movie was made...

I enjoyed it for what it was. Tobruk was an enjoyable movie also.

Any of you guys ever read Bob Crisp's Brazen Chariots?

That would make a helluva movie!

Heck, you could turn each chapter into part of a mini-series.

It's just so incredibly compelling; I'm surprised the BBC doesn't do something with it.

IMO, Tobruk was also an exciting flic, but I can't find it on Cable, or DVD; perhaps all the ethnic stereotyping has rendered it PI?
