I'm with T. Something like that has a lot of risk for attracting undesireables. I would have posted it in the General Discussion and posted a link here. JMO.

Both Dixie and Apollo frequently post similar stories on the Thread.Do we blame them as well?

ANYTHING we write or post has the poetential for being hijacked or "attracking undesirables". Shall we just let the forum go dark? Or act like adults and hold others to the same standard?

Surely you see the difference in risk of posting something deep in the midst of the Thread and right on the main forum?

In addition, the Thread is off-topic by definition. It is but a gentlemen's agreement that we do not post political stuff there, and there is little risk of such topics being hijacked or diverted.

Main forum is a totally different animal.

This is kinda freaky. I hadn't heard about this missile launch until I read about it here just now. Then I had to actually go hunting to find a news story about it. I would have expected an unknown missile launch off the west coast to be front page news plastered all over the news sites.

Indeed, some quick searches of news sites don't show much.

If you argue that this thread should not have been started, then why, having made that argument (which by the way, I think was fair enough) do you continue to comment on it?

This discussion reminds me of "The Bedford Incident"

Capt: "I'll tell you when to fire one"

Ensign: "Fire one" (pushes button - whoosh goes the ASROC)

Sonar Operator: "High speed screws bearing ....."

Fade to mushroom cloud

Couldn't think of who the Ensign was. The Capt was Richard Widmark. Good flick IMHO.

If'n it was a mistaken USN/USAF launch I'd put my money on North Korea.

Seriously though, the fact the military doesn't seem too upset about points towards it not being anything serious.

My guess it is

1. A stunt pulled by a private individual
2. An accidental launch by a USN sub or surface ship
3. A deliberate launch by a USN sub or ship

If it was #1 or #2, some one will have some 'splainin to do. If it was #3, some REMF will have some 'splainin to do.

Back in the 1960's during the UFO craze, my father was a police officer. Some clever fellow got ahold of a weather ballon and rigged it with ballast and a basket. Then he filled the basket with highway flares and released upwind from Toledo. The guy knew what he was doing because the thing was ballasted perfectly and the weather was just right that the entire city saw this glowing orb floating by. I guess it caused quite a stir and about killed my mother as the little device landed in my father's patrol area. Point being that ingenuitive people can do amazing things when they put there mind to it

So The Thread violates the stated purpose of the War Room sub-forum, and it's left alone because there's no politics? Huh? How is that good enough for the letter-of-the-law crowd here? I see there's currently a discussion of broken cruise ships in there. How is that "Share your gameplay tips, secret tactics and fabulous strategies with fellow gamers here."?

I mean if we're being all official and whatnot.

Despite of what they are telling you:
If you are in the crowny's club then you will get away with braking the laws around here, the existence of The Thread is a living evidence for that.
You should be careful discussing this more, the Aristocracy may punish you for it.
It's like the two groups need each other.

I will also retire from this thread now.

OK Rudolf, let's put it in a very simple way: a kind neighbor says that the local kids can use his local lot, with a couple of minor rules. Do you call him a bad guy because you want to play the one game he forbids?

Not comparable.

If I wasn't ignoring this thread I would say my original post falls firmly under the "or just to chat" stipulation or perhaps the "provide an interesting or relevant link to another site". I certainly did not violate the letter or the sprite of any on the other terms. That being said, Matrix has the right to ban me for the good of the community if it sees fit.

Yes, I voted today as well. However, locking this up as it's bound to turn political at some point. Fulfilling your responsibility as a citizen to educate yourself on the candidates and vote is very important, but this is not the place for that discussion.

This was another Political discussion. All the individual said was please vote. Another locked thread. What does it take to convince you that by "No politics" they mean NO POLITICS!? Or are you simply looking to see how many people you can spin up? There are many, many locked threads due to politics. Why don't you look a few up to see for yourself, since you don't seem to belive us. Thanks for the change of sigbanner.

What you say simply is not true, if it was users like User: EUBanana would not been allowed to use:
as his avatar (Its very political and a clare signal of his political opinion, and the same avatar is used often by a Political party).

So the "No Politics" thing is simply not true, it's not like they have failed to see any of his 2994 posts.
The "No Politics" thing is however true when the Aristocracy want's it to be true.

No, because I notefied them about it twise for a year ago, and got the reply that it was OK because only 2 forum members had complained on it.

Please keep in mind that this is just One example, having browsed through the forum a bit now I find 81 examples of Avatars, Quotes, SigPictures, or Text comment's in posts who is very political but allowed. I'm not gonna spend my time looking because my opinion is already set, the Only point I'm trying to make here is that we are not all bound by the same law here. That is fine by me, just don't try to fool yourself.

Aristocracy? Like Lord Eric, Sir Joe? King David? Now your not only insulting us, now your insulting Matrix employees. They are not tyrants, their pretty good guys who try to keep this forum a decent, friendly place. Maybe you'd be happier on another game forum. I can suggest one with very few restrictions.
