Most wargamers started with boardgames, wich would you like to see as a PC game ?
My personal list :
2nd fleet
6th fleet
Gulf strike
Russian Campaign the 70's game
And I do prefer just raw remakes, not some kind off **** up like Matris did with EiA

At least 5th Fleet's already been done.

Gulf strike

Gulf Strike has already been done as a computer wargame.

Not to mention, most are available as Vassal Modules.

The attempt did not meet the expectations.

Britannia by Gibson Games
Junta by Creative Wargames Workshop (would be hard to get right on a PC but still...LOVE that game)

Squad Leader's been half done (not the one that is named Squad Leader and universally hated by all, but the one called Close Assault). It was a hybrid game, played on an actual Squad Leader map.

Star Fleet Battles. Not that real-time stuff they released a while back. I'm talking turn-based, original Star Fleet Battles!

I was thinking about this the other day...I'm starting to feel that PC wargames aren't doing it for me any more and I have been trawling the internet and watching the Dice Tower and Generation D6 video reviews and I feel that my future in wargaming lies in boardgames....the ONLY downside I see in boardgames over PC games is you need to have at least one other person around your house to play...finding one is hard though..I'm not even talking about wargames to be honest...I was looking at Pitchcar and I reckon that game has more fun factor than any racing game made for a PC\Console....I also came across some very interesting solitiare games.....the box, the maps, the cards and the counters on the whole have very high production values and are a joy to look at let alone play with, infact many of the games I was looking at look far better than any graphics do on a screen...

So I wonder if other gamers will start to get dissilusioned with the hype over PC\Console releases which very rarely live up to expectation and start to drift towards boardgames....

So is this yearning for boardgames to be made into PC games really us coming to realise that boardgames are the best and what we really want to play, but for some reason in this tech age we can't except the fact that the old way is the best way?

Computer gaming for me back in the early 80's was ideal BECAUSE you could play against the AI and didn't need to find a mate who had similar wargame tastes to play against...now with the internet I have the ability to find someone to play them games against and so I have come full circle...it is time (maybe) to leave the PC wargame scene and start to buy a decent board wargame collection and have some social interaction face to face playing that said collection

You can get it from classic games. Its obviously dated but still plays surprisingly well.

I would like Rourke's Drift, Junta, War at sea, and a really good man to man, like Sniper or Ambush!

Indeed several of the mentioned games above have been done years ago.  A few, however, were epic failures.

Far and away the board game that I want to see done properly is 3rd Reich.

I agree whole-heartedly! While I never understood why the real-time, I still run those programs every now & then, but turn the speed all the way down to a "1" (you can get some/better SFB fix if you use the SFB models).

I'm personally against subscription games, so I never checked it out, but you could look into the SFB online service.

Ooh, I still play Computer Ambush from time to time!

You won't be alone out there. This effect has been occurring for many years. I hit it about 5 years ago, and I know for a fact that others here did so back then (if not sooner) as well. Warning: It's an (initially) costly effect, trying to get back what you had.

Hi all.

Some of the old People's Wargames (by David Bolt) titles such as Gazala and the Cossacks are Coming would be good.

Rob.

I sometimes think back at the times when we played every friday at our club in antwerp, we played Empires in arms, Fire in the east, Star fleet batles, minitures 15 mm, every now and then a fun game ( maffia wars ), we had almost 30 members, A true wargamers dream ( with unlimited beer supply from the pub on the ground floor )

What happened to that group ? It's not Tin Soldiers of Antwerp I guess as they're more miniature oriented.

No it was CSA, conflict simulations Antwerp, they had a location in the pub "Den Engel " on the central square in Antwerp, I think they disolved when the location was no longer free, not sure about that though. I used to play there from '88 till sometime in the ninenties.
I do know TSA, they have their anual convention on the 6 of november this year, i hope to visit it , for those interested http://www.tsoa.be/

Another vote for Brittania from me.

The advantage of PC wargames is that the computer does all the calculating for you. My boardgaming group used to play all sorts but as it could be months (or years) before a game was repeated it used to take us hours to remember how to play it and we'd always forget a combat mod. Boardgames over the internet with the PC doing the grunt work - thats the way to go. Settlers of Catan has been done very well.
