I just send a capital ship with a very big area weapon to the place were the Kaltor were bred, assuming it would be a massacre. I then watched it using a very limited version of it. There are only enemies around, but still, it does not use the weapon to its full extend. If the currently attacked kaltor is on him, the weapon will only kill that kaltor, leaving the farther kaltor untouched. I'm not sure if this was intended or not, but I would have thought such weapon had a fixed range. And would have liked that the ship would use it only if there are no non-enemy ships in the area of effect of the weapon.

Taltamir reported this a couple of times. The area effect only spreads until it hits the enemy, then stops... making it useless as an area effect weapon. It may be that this only applies in battles against space monsters, I am not sure. At least it will not stop when hitting your own ships.

I have no personal experience with these weapons, as I found them always more a liability, I prefer to design my ships for fleet operations. Then Taltamir's reports made me even more reluctant of using them.

Well, an attack of a single capital ship on an enemy big fleet with the devastator pulse is quite swift and satisfying ...

Does the Devastator pulse no longer suck now?
