If I compare the list of features of BFTB and COTA, I read a lot of "enhanced features" and "new codes".

I don't own COTA, but I'm interested to know how the player can see the differences between the two games. In what concrete situation can we notice the "better IA", the "better route findings", the better "formation movement code" or the "advanced force allocation algorithms" ?

I certainly don't have sufficient experience or deep knowledge of both games to answer this, however if you have a look at this thread it should at least partially answer your question.

What I do know is that I've had more 'ain't that cool' moments watching my BftB units move than I did with CotA ... and hopefully it'll get better

I played COTA for around two years after it's release, and I only came across this by noticing the screenshots were the same. I'm buying ASAP but am wondering the same. COTA was (is) hell of a game though!
