1440x900 panel position mod - useless for any other resolution

Post by gwgardner »

I dislike having to reposition the info panels every time I play, so I modified the file related to it to preposition those panels on the right side of the map window.

This is only for those who play 1440x900 full screen mode. I haven't tried it in windowed mode.

I looked for a flag in some file which would start with these panels displayed, but couldn't find that.

If you want to use this in 1440x900 resolution, full screen mode, then save your data/GUI_1440x900.csv, and replace it with the one in the zip in this thread.

If anyone wants to modify this or do something similar for another resolution, here are the values that have to be changed, ie the horizontal and vertical positions on the screen for each element of the panels.

This shows the relevant entries for the hex panel. Similar entries can be found for the unit and attack panels.

To get the transparent panels just delete lines 351, 401, 451 in the csv file. To fiddle with the text color, go down to the bottom of the file and change the RGB values for the medium font.

You don't have to delete lines, just comment them (# as first character in line) or set width and height (4th and 5th value) to 0.
I can also suggest editing images for value field to make them somehow more visible when no panel background, or to change images of each panel background.

Thx. How would one go about editing the value field, to make it more visible with a transparent background?

I think he means tweaking the original image files.
ie Brightness/ Contrast and Layer Transparency values.
all the .csv files do is
  • alter text, (font style, font strength, colour, size, position and placement hierarchy)
  • alter images (size, position and placement hierarchy)

We are going to prepare a tool that will allow you to design placement of all GUI elements for all resolution at once.
