I take it you are playing with the newest BETA?

Hi Joc, beta1121. I am curious as to your observation? FatR does not like the new air coordination rules. seems to me the closer target is to your own base the more coordinated your attack. The longer the distance the less coordinated...

I like the current air war algorithem..seems to make sense to me.

Also, I just turned over to 1/45. All of a sudden all Allied green replacement pilots come with much higher skills right off the bat. Navy pilots come right out of school with an average exp of 50 and 50 air skill. Makes it easy to train them up and I am just buried in good pilots for a change. Keep the faith, baby!

Seems my 44 navy pilots arriving on CV/CVE are at 50exp. Replacement pilots in the 30s.
army replacement pilots 25-30s.

Well my observations are quite controversial and made me fairly unpopular on the forum.

But I agree with FarR. I hate it too.

The air coordination is basically removed in the new beta. You get one semi coordinated raid followed by 15-20 small fragments. This is due to a bug that was "fixed" in the beta and implemented without second thought. I have yet to receive an answer on how long the "bug" has been present in the game. Probably been there since release. I strongly feel it will upset a lot of stuff and should have been properly play tested and not just implemented on the fly.

I can see how planes from the same base would be coordinated for one attack, but when many planes from different bases are placed on strike missions I would think they would have a very difficult time getting together at the same time at the strike target.

On good thing is now a defender does not have to worry about a massive 200plane cap defense. Smaller CAP package can get the job done until worn down.

I think the Beta air coordination is more realistic- but perhaps thats because the Japanese have bigger air groups so a few coordinated together = massive raids. It affects both players of course- although the Japanese player generally has longer range with their fighters so they have more flexibility with respect to sweeps (which appear to suffer the most from the new Beta).

FATR isn't impressed with the coordination rules in our game either. About time he suffered some pain though.

Yes, there is no change in 44. But when 45 rolls around they all take about about a 20 point jump in all skills. Navy average 50, Marines 45 and army around 45. Allied pilots take a jump too. And depending on the unit the secondary skill jumps as well. Navy fighters come in at 50 air, bombers come in at 50 GB and torpedo squadrons come in at 50 torpedo.

The jump is so great that I am dumping whole squadrons of pilots that were training in late 44 and filling them with new replacements as they come with better skills than those that have been training for months. It is really a nice turn of event and needed because the Allied start to get so many new air units that any carefully built up reserve would quickly deplete.

Yes, but sometimes a fix creates another problem. Both Viperpol and I have noticed that large carrier formations are almost immune from LBA attacks as the coordination is so poor that any strong carrier CAP will just devastate even the largest attack. The attacks just come in bits and drabs with many unescorted that the whole nature of the game has changed. Strikes were too deadly before the fix and now it is not deadly enough. Needs a little tweaking. I realize that getting something like this totally right is not an easy thing to do.

FatR feels the pain, but takes it like a champ!!!

Truk/Rabaul are under nightly port attacks. Toungoo is under heavy artillery fire and this turn was my 1st night b29 AF strike into north Thailand.

44-5-14: Allies in Burma well on the way from Prome/Toungoo in route to Rangoon. Appears the IJA is in full retreat on the road from Rangoon to Moulman. Bombarded coastal IJAAF AFs seems to allow the allies complete air superiority in the area. Last time
allies did this FatR relocated the KB to just off Rangoon to stabilize the sector.

edit, I was wrong to assume FatR is using delay tactic w/the AA unit. It has an op mode subtraction, probably could not run fast enough.

Moulmein is not on the coast. I suspect it would be hard to shell because of sandbars in the river. 15 miles inland...each grid hex is 5 miles...

South Burma position. I dropped an Airborne brigade unprepped into Pegu this turn. Wanted to insure no rail movement from Rangoon to Moulmein. May have caused all units coming out of Rangoon to detrain and fight!!! Will see in the replay. Ten allied divisions to the NE moving to cut retreat path.
