With great regret I say my friend and distant cousin passed away Tuesday morning in his sleep. He was my sister in laws father. But he was a great man a great Christian and and survivor of Guadalcanal. He was an aircraft maintenance mechanic there on Henderson field almost from the beginning.

He talked about fighting the Japanese losing many friends and the night of the battleships bombardment. He caroused about "Washing machine Joe" and the time one of the Joes was shot down during the night they all rejoiced that they could go to sleep but when he went back to his tent he found a flaming piece of the landing gear had crashed into it and burned it all up.

He was 90 years old at the time of his passing.

A salute for the fallen and the fond memories he had left.

Sven, I feel deeply sorry for your loss I hope your family is able to overcome this tragedy. For him to live 90 years with the pain and suffering, it shows
how remarkable he was.
