So I thought many of the basic weapons in the game were a bit bland, and thus decided to remake many of them. The basic torpedoes and lasers were the main things that were replaced; the area effects and other effects were not touched yet. I haven't even seen them in game I don't believe yet.

The photon torpedo improvement should be a nice addition especially if you'll be using the Star Trek TC: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2432785 and the Star Trek Sound Pack: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2439157

To install, just place the unrared folder into your main DW directory. Beware that this will override any files that you have in the images/effects/weapons folder, so make a backup. I encourage everyone to actually look at the images before installing also, and compare them to the stock images.

Here's the file:

http://www.filefront.com/16145869/DW%20Weapons%20Pack.rar

For those that want larger torpedoes and smaller lasers, try this out:

http://www.filefront.com/16146279/DW-Weapon-Pack-LGTorp-SMLaser2.rar/

Granted, I haven't seen how it looks in game yet, so any feedback is appreciated. I'll probably test it out tonight

Sounds very interesting. What are the chances of a wee screeny to see this in action?

Plan on not doing a Beam04?
The torps look cool, though a little small. Beams are so huge, have you tried the scaling them at all?

I actually did include the last beam, but somehow it wasn't included in the archive. It's updated now.

Well, see, I was going by the file dimensions somewhat for the lasers. While the lasers I have are slightly wider, the larger ones I had assumed the designers wanted for larger ships, such as capital ships, etc. There's only one relatively small laser that was edited, and that's beam 0.

I actually did think the torpedoes were too small on my first edit, but I made them larger...but still too small you say hmm? I'll look into it. I can certainly make a larger sized one easily. It depends on the torpedo that's being talked about though; 4 & 5 were meant to be small by the designers, and so I'd have to experiment with them a bit to see how they look in game.

Modding this game is a bit of a pain though, as the start up time is just enormous, and I have to test this stuff. The game takes longer to load up than games like Crysis though.

Let me first say I love the torpedo effects, they remind me exactly of the Star Trek ones with the diffuse of light spinning around as the torpedo tracked it's target. You have captured that well.

They are just a tad too small. Add to that the lasers overpower them by being huge. I have yet to see the last two torpedo effects which are different then the first three.

Maybe I can mess around with it as well, but I wonder what a small tight beam would like. Maybe more closer to what a Star Wars Capital engagement looks like.

Hey Lordxorn,

Did you try the new pack with the larger torpedoes and smaller lasers? It does seem that the lasers look quite a bit smaller and thinner. The torpedoes..well, they do look bigger, but eh, they're still a bit small, yeah. The next step it to expand it over the bounds that the developers set and see how that turns out.

It's another limitation in modding in this game that I mean working with something so small it's difficult to get much detail in. In other games I could make something huge, put lots of detail into it, and then tell the game to compress it into a really small space of whatever dimension I wanted.

I saw the new ones, they look much better. The game seems to emphasize the beams, so I released a weapons mod really cutting them down. It looks really cool with shorter beams.
Check it Out Here

These effects are soooooo gooooood and smooth and "glowy". I love them! By far the best so far :)
Though i still dont quite love the torpedo effects, i didnt in vanilla and while these are tons better, still the game is like compressing their size or something wierd. I guess i'll try enlarging them further myself.
